SUBJECT:
Flash: Driveability Improvements
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves flash reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software.
MODELS:
2011 (JC) Journey
2011 (JS) 200/Avenger
NOTE:
This Service Bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 2.4L engine (sales code ED3 or EDG) built before April 11, 2011.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some customers may experience any of the following:
^ Long crank times when temperatures are between 20° F and 25° F (-6° C and 3° C) and 60° F and 65° F (15° C and 18° C) (JC and JS bodies).
^ Engine RPM fluctuation on closed throttle deceleration between 30 MPH and 20 MPH (48 KPH and 32 KPH) (JC and JS bodies).
^ Slightly elevated RPM (100 RPM) while driving slow or parking lot driving conditions (JC body only)..
Updating the PCM software will correct the conditions listed above.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH(TM)) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify no DTC's are set. If DTC's are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
NOTE:
Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.
NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.
1. Reprogram the PCM with the latest software. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TECHCONNECT, Refer To 8 - Electrical/Electronic Control Modules/Powertrain Control Module - Standard Procedure PCM/ECM Programming. After PCM reprogramming, the following must be performed:
a. Clear any DTC's that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.
2. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label" and attach it near the VECI label.
