G. Replace Power Steering Pressure Hose (LX All Wheel Drive Models)

NOTE:
The following procedure is required if the power steering pressure hose required replacement per the inspection in Section "A."

1. Open the hood and remove the power steering reservoir.

2. Using a suction gun, siphon the power steering fluid from the power steering pump reservoir.





3. On Hemi engine only, remove the engine cover (Figure 17).

4. Remove the air cleaner housing and inlet tube to the throttle body (Figure 17).

5. Using Mopar Brake Parts Cleaner (or equivalent) and compressed air, clean the area around the power steering pump where the tube nut and low pressure supply elbow screws into the power steering pump

CAUTION:
Failure to clean the area around the power steering pump tube nut and low pressure supply elbow at the power steering pump could allow dirt to enter the power steering hydraulic system during power steering pressure hose replacement.





6. Unthread the tube nut at the power steering pump and disconnect the power steering pressure hose (Figure 18).

7. Raise the vehicle on an appropriate hoist.

8. Remove the plastic underbody shield to gain access to the power steering pressure hose.

9. Remove the screw securing the power steering pressure hose routing clamp to the front of the engine cradle.

10. Remove the screw fastening routing clamps securing the power steering pressure and return hoses to the right side of the engine cradle.

11. Using Mopar Brake Parts Cleaner (or equivalent) and compressed air, clean the area where the power steering pressure and return hose tube nuts screw into the steering gear.

CAUTION:
Failure to clean the area around the power steering hose tube nuts at the steering gear before disassembly could allow dirt to enter the power steering hydraulic system during power steering pressure hose replacement.





12. Unthread the power steering pressure hose tube nut from the steering gear (Figure 19).

13. Remove and discard the power steering pressure hose from the vehicle.

14. Install the new power steering pressure hose into position.

15. Lubricate the rubber O-rings on each end of the new power steering pressure hose with clean power steering fluid.

16. Install the new power steering pressure hose to the steering gear port. Do not tighten the tube nut at this time.

17. Route the power steering pressure hose along right side of the engine cradle. Position the power steering pressure hose routing clamp over return hose routing clamp, then install the screw securing hoses to right side of the engine cradle.

18. Tighten the power steering pressure hose tube nut at steering gear to 35 ft. lbs. (47 N.m).

19. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.

20. Install the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump. Tighten power steering pressure hose tube nut to 35 ft. lbs. (47 N.m).

21. Using Mopar Brake Cleaner or equivalent, clean off any spilled power steering fluid from the power steering pump.

22. Raise the vehicle on the hoist.

23. Using Mopar Brake Cleaner or equivalent, clean any spilled power steering fluid from the engine cradle and crossover.

24. Clean and install the plastic underbody shield.

25. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.

26. Install air cleaner housing and inlet tube (Figure 17).

27. On Hemi engine only, install the engine cover.

28. Continue with Section I. Fill and Bleed the Power Steering Hydraulic System.

CAUTION:
If the air is not purged from the power steering system correctly, power steering pump failure could result.
