Service Procedure
1. Reprogram the Power Top Control Module (PTCM) with the StarSCAN using the procedure below:NOTE:
The StarSCAN tool must be at version 8.04 or higher before this procedure can be performed. The software release level is visible in the blue header at the top of the StarSCAN screen.
NOTE:
If the flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.
a. Open the hood and install a battery charger. Verify that the charging rate provides approximately 13.5 volts. Set the battery charger to continuous charge. Do not allow the charger to time out during the flash process.
b. Connect the CH9410 StarSCAN ethernet cable to the StarSCAN and the dealer's network drop.
c. Connect the CH9404 StarSCAN vehicle cable to the StarSCAN and the vehicle data link connector.
d. Power "ON" the StarSCAN tool.
e. Starting at the StarSCAN "Home" screen, select "ECU View".
f. Scroll down the list and select "PTCM Power Top Control Module".
g. Select "More Options".
h. Select "ECU Flash".
i. Record the part number displayed on the "Flash PTCM" screen for later reference.
j. Select "Browse for New File" and follow the screen instructions.
k. Highlight the listed PTCM calibration.
l. If the newly downloaded flash file "Part Number" in the StarSCAN is:
> the same as the number recorded in Step 1i, then the PTCM is up to date.
Continue with Step 2 of this procedure.
> different than the number recorded in Step 1i, the PTCM requires updating. Continue with Step m of this procedure.
m. Select "Download to Scantool".
n. Select "Close" after the download to the scantool is complete and then select "Back".
o. Highlight the desired file, select "Update Controller" and follow the screen instructions.
p. When the PTCM update is complete, select "OK".
q. Verify that the part number changed at the top of the "PTCM" screen.
r. After completing the PTCM reprogramming, clear all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) using the following procedure:
1. Starting at the "Home" screen, select "System View".
2. Select "All DTC's".
3. Select "Clear All Stored DTC's" and follow the on-screen instructions.
4. Select "YES" in the pop-up box.
5. Start the engine and verify that there are no DTC's.
s. Turn off and remove the battery charger.
2. Install a luggage compartment warning tag using the following procedure:
a. Open the deck lid.
b. Locate the existing hole under the deck lid weather seal (Figure 1).
c. Using the supplied push pin, install the luggage compartment warning tag as shown in Figure 1.
3. Fold the cargo shield forward against the bulkhead.
4. Remove the floor carpet panel from the vehicle trunk.
5. Loosen the two (2) left side cargo shield bracket attachment nuts.
6. Remove the deck lid latch center trim panel (Figure 2).
7. Remove the push pin on the left quarter trim panel.
8. Remove the left interior quarter trim panel (Figure 2).
9. Turn the hydraulic valve located on the convertible top pump one turn counterclockwise (Figure 3).
10. Push down on the right and left deck bar cylinders (Figure 4).
NOTE:
Pushing down on the deck bar cylinders will pull on the latch release cables, allowing the deck lid to be placed in the service position.
11. With the help of an assistant, tilt the deck lid assembly rearward and up into the service position.
12. Perform the following procedure to replace the deck lid forward match micro switch:
a. Using a grease pencil, mark the left side deck lid forward latch bracket location (Figure 5).
b. Cut off the tie straps that hold the body wiring harness to the left side forward latch bracket.
c. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
d. Disconnect the gray deck lid forward latch micro switch from the body wiring harness.
e. Remove the deck lid forward latch bracket retaining bolts (Figure 5).
f. Carefully lift the forward latch bracket and turn it over to expose the bottom of the latch assembly.
g. Remove the latch actuation cable from the forward latch pawl and remove the assembly from the vehicle (Figure 6).
CAUTION:
Note how the actuation cable interfaces to the latch pawl
h. Remove the two latch striker pad bolts and remove the latch from the forward latch bracket.
i. Cut off switch wiring harness tie strap.
j. Using a 1/4 inch drill bit, drill out the micro switch mounting rivet (Figure 7).
CAUTION:
Only drill out the head of the rivet. Do not drill completely through the switch and bracket.
k. Remove and discard the original deck lid latch micro switch.
NOTE:
All deck lid switches must be replaced, including those that were installed per RRT 07-025.
l. Place the new switch into position and install a new rivet to secure the switch to the latch bracket.
m. Install the latch and striker pad onto the latch bracket and install the retaining screws. Tighten the screws to 115 in. lbs. (13 N.m).
NOTE:
Be sure that the elongated hole on the bracket aligns with the elongated hole on the striker pad.
n. Secure the gray connector to the deck lid forward latch retaining bracket (Figure 8).
o. Tie strap the deck lid micro switch wiring harness to the retaining bracket (Figure 8).
p. Place the latch bracket into position upside down on the vehicle. Then connect the latch release cable to the latch pawl and bracket anchor as noted in Step 12g of this procedure (Figure 6).
CAUTION:
Incorrect installation of the latch release cable will prevent deck bar latching.
q. Rotate the bracket to its right side up position.
r. Line up the latch bracket using the marks made in Step 12a (Figure 5).
s. Install the three latch bracket mounting screws and tighten them to 88 in. lbs. (10 N.m) (Figure 5).
t. Connect the deck lid switch grey electrical connector to the gray body wiring harness connector.
u. Install new tie straps to secure the body wiring harness to the forward latch bracket.
v. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
> If the vehicle DID NOT have RRT 07-025 performed AND the MDH is 062223 or earlier, continue with Step 13 of this procedure.
> If the vehicle HAD RRT 07-025 performed OR the MDH is 062300 through 083023, continue with Step 19 of this procedure.
NOTE:
The appropriate part numbers for each VIN can be viewed on the DealerCONNECT VIP and Global Recall System functions.
13. Using the StarSCAN, perform the following procedure to gain access to the extend and retract micro switches:
a. Power up the StarSCAN and turn the key to the "ON" position.
b. From the "HOME" screen select "ECU View".
c. Scroll down the list and select "PTCM Power Top Control Module".
d. Select "Misc. Functions".
e. Select "Manual Top Movement" and then press the blue "Start" button.
f. Read the manual top movement on-screen message and then press the "Next" button.
g. Read the second manual top movement on-screen message and then press the "Next" button.
h. Select the drop down box for the "1A Open Deck lid w/ Top Open".
i. Scroll down the drop down box list using the down arrow on the StarSCAN to "3B Tonneau Extend" and then press "Enter".
j. Select "Next" and read the warning on the screen. Then select "Next" again.
k. When the tonneau cover is fully extended, select "Finish".
l. Turn the ignition to the "OFF" position.
14. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
15. Perform the following procedure to replace the tonneau retract micro switch:
a. Remove and discard the retract micro switch mounting screws (Figure 9).
b. Disconnect the electrical switch green connector from the body wiring harness.
c. Remove and discard the retract micro switch.
d. Install the new retract micro switch and tighten the mounting screws to 18 in. lbs. (2 N.m).
e. Connect the new retract micro switch green connector to the green body harness connector.
16. Perform the following procedure to replace the tonneau extend micro switch:
a. Remove and discard the extend micro switch mounting screws (Figure 9).
b. Disconnect the extend micro switch grey connector from the body wiring harness.
c. Remove and discard the extend micro switch.
d. Install the new extend micro switch and tighten to 18 in. lbs. (2 N.m).
e. Connect the extend micro switch grey connector to the gray body wiring harness connector.
17. Connect the negative battery cable and close the hood.
18. Perform the following procedure to retract the tonneau cover.
a. Connect the StarSCAN to the data link connector located under the instrument panel knee blocker.
b. Power up the StarSCAN and turn the key to the "ON" position.
c. From the "HOME" screen select "ECU View".
d. Scroll down the list and select "PTCM Power Top Control Module".
e. Select "Misc. Functions".
f. Select "Manual Top Movement" and then press the blue "Start" button.
g. Read the manual top movement on-screen message and then press the "Next" button.
h. Read the second manual top movement on-screen message and then press the "Next" button.
i. Select the drop down box for the "1A Open Deck lid w/Top Open".
j. Scroll down the drop down box list using the down arrow on the StarSCAN to "4A Tonneau Retract" and then press "Enter".
k. Select "Next" and read the warning on the screen. Then select "Next" again.
l. When the tonneau cover is fully retracted, select "Finish".
m. Turn the ignition to the "OFF" position.
19. Disconnect and remove the StarSCAN from the vehicle.
20. Install the left side interior quarter trim panel (Figure 2).
21. Install the left side interior quarter trim panel push pin.
22. Tighten the left side cargo shield pivot bracket.
23. Install the deck lid latch center trim panel (Figure 2).
24. With the help of an assistant, move the deck lid assembly forward and down to engage the front deck lid latches.
CAUTION:
Be sure that both deck bar cylinders are in the "down" position before engaging the deck lid latches.
25. Pull upward on the right and left deck bar cylinders to engage the deck lid latches.
26. Tighten the hydraulic valve on the convertible top pump (turn clockwise) until the valve seats and is finger tight (Figure 3).
27. Install the floor carpet panel back into the vehicle.
28. Place the cargo shield in its extended position and then close the deck lid.
29. Place the ignition key in the "ON" position and cycle the convertible top open and closed to ensure proper operation.
CAUTION:
Be sure that there is adequate clearance above the vehicle before cycling the top.
