Headliner Retainer Separation
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves reattaching a retainer(s) to the headliner instead of replacing headliner. Retainers can sometimes separate, especially during service.
MODELS:
2008 (JS27) Sebring Convertible (Hard Top)
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a power retractable hard top (sales code VRO) built before October 2, 2007 (MDH 1002XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Retainer for the headliner separates from mounting plate.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the retainer becomes separated from the headliner, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
SPECIAL TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Carefully pull down the headliner until the separated retainer is exposed.
2. Remove the retainer from the sheet metal mount.
CAUTION:
Do not damage the white clips.
3. Remove adhesive from the retainer and clean old adhesive from retainer anchor holes.
4. Coat mating surfaces with adhesion promoter 3M p/n 05907 or equivalent.
5. Spread adhesive, p/fl 05017148AB approximately 1/4 in (6mm) thick inside depression area left by the separated retainer plate.
6. Install original retainer in the adhesive in the correct orientation and press firmly. Adhesive can be worked for about 5 to 7 minutes. Full cure strength 24 hours @ 70°F (21°C).
7. Do not attach headliner until the adhesive has cured until secure, (about 15 minutes). Secure clip in place with tape if necessary.
8. Reattach headliner by snapping the white clips into the corresponding mounting holes.
