SUBJECT:
Rear Suspension Rattle Sound
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves checking for the source of the sound in the rear of the vehicle and if necessary, replacing the rear shocks with ones that include revised tuning, and upper mounting bushings with revised hardness.
MODELS:
2007-2008 (JS41) Sebring/Avenger
NOTE:
This information applies to JS models **WITHOUT All Wheel Drive** built through October 1, 2007 (MDH1001XX)
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Vehicle operator may complain of a rattle, clunking or clicking sound heard from the rear of the vehicle while driving.
DIAGNOSIS:
Verify that all rear suspension components (stabilizer bars, toe links, trailing arms, control arms, cross member, etc.) are tight. Ensure the rear deck lid striker is properly adjusted. If nothing is found to be loose or out of adjustment, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the rear shock absorber assembly. Refer to the detailed removal procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 2 - SUSPENSION > REAR SUSPENSION > SHOCK ASSEMBLY > REMOVAL.
2. Disassemble shock assembly. Refer to the detailed removal procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 2 - SUSPENSION > REAR SUSPENSION > SHOCK ASSEMBLY > DISASSEMBLY > SHOCK ASSEMBLY.
WARNING:
Do not remove the shock rod nut before the coil spring is properly compressed. The coil spring is held under pressure. The coil spring must be compressed, removing spring tension from the upper mounting bracket, before the shock rod nut is removed.
3. Assemble replacement shock absorber assembly using p/n 05105790AD and install replacement bushings for the upper mount with p/n **05151285AA (upper) and p/n 05151286AA (lower)**. Refer to the detailed installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 2 - SUSPENSION > REAR SUSPENSION > SHOCK ASSEMBLY > ASSEMBLY> SHOCK ASSEMBLY.
4. Install the rear shock absorber assembly. Refer to the detailed removal procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 2 - SUSPENSION > REAR SUSPENSION > SHOCK ASSEMBLY > INSTALLATION > SHOCK ASSEMBLY.
