Body - Retractable Hard Top Rattle at Windshield

SUBJECT:
Retractable Hard Top Rattle At Windshield Header

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves adjusting the Retractable Hard Top striker at the windshield header.

MODELS:

2008 (JS27) Sebring Convertible (Hardtop)

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a Power Retractable Hard Top (sales code VRO)

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Noise or rattle at the front of the Retractable Hard Top where it latches to the windshield header.

DIAGNOSIS:

The vehicle operator describes the above condition, perform the Repair Procedure.





SPECIAL TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

NOTE:
In the following steps, to activate Retractable Hard Top, use the instrument panel Top Control Switch. While opening top, momentarily touch the CLOSE button to stop the travel at the desired position.

1. Open top approximately 6 In. (15 cm)

2. Using Trim Remover or equivalent, pry off the (4) front and (4) rear push pin fasteners and remove the front panel headliner.





3. Loosen the 3 striker attachment screws on each striker, (one per side) (Fig. 1).

4. Close top to header and latch.





5. Tighten the 2 striker attachment screws that are accessible on each striker. See (Fig. 2) # 1 below.

6. Open top to mid position.

7. Tighten the remaining screw on each striker, (one per side). See (Fig. 2) ) # 2 above.

8. Check Header Grommet(s) for damage. If rubber is distorted, rotate the Header Grommet(s) on each striker 1/4 turn.

9. Position the headliner in the front panel and align holes. Snap push pins into place.

CAUTION:
Ensure headliner retainer push pins are fully seated.

10. Cycle top from full open to close and latch top. Check for proper operation (folding) of front to mid panel headliners.
