THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 21-020-08, DATED AUGUST 26, 2008, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS** AND INCLUDE THE ADDITION OF MODEL YEARS, SYMPTOMS, NEW REPAIR PROCEDURE AND LABOR TIMES.
THE StarSCAN(R) FLASH FILES FOR THIS BULLETIN MUST BE RETRIEVED FROM THE INTERNET.
StarSCAN(R) SOFTWARE LEVEL MUST BE AT RELEASE 9.04 OR HIGHER.
StarMOBILE STANDALONE MODE OR StarMOBILE DESKTOP CLIENT MAY ALSO BE USED TO PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE.
SUBJECT:
Flash: Automatic Transmission Shift Improvements
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves flash reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software, Clear the Variable Line Pressure (VLP) Counters and Perform the Quick Learn function.
MODELS:
2007 - **2008** (CS) Pacifica
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to CS models built with a 4.0L engine with a 62TE automatic transmission (Sales Codes EGQ and DG2) or a 3.8L engine equipped with a 4ITE automatic transmission (Sales Codes EGH and DFF).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The vehicle operator may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
i. **Complaints of overall shift quality (All transmissions)**
ii **During a rapid coast down while braking a bump may be felt just before a stop**(All transmissions)**
iii. **1- 2 upshift Improvement (41TE transmissions)**
iv. **3 - 2 - 3 change mind shift bump (41TE transmissions)**
v. 3 - 2 kickdown bump or harshness (62TE transmissions)
vi. Too sensitive accelerator pedal response on initial tip in (squeal tires)(62TE transmissions)
vii. MIL illumination for PO5OD - Cold Start Rough Idle (62TE transmissions)
viii. No vehicle movement in reverse due to CVI index learning to 0 (62TE transmissions)
ix. Tip in hesitation after a cold start. Engine coolant temperature is below 80° F (26° C) (62TE transmissions)
x. **2 - 3 upshift bump or harshness (62TE transmissions)**
**4 - 3 - 4 change mind shift bump (62TE transmissions)** The software update will remove steady state partial lockup.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (StarSCAN�) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in
TechCONNECT, verify all engine/transmission systems are functioning as designed. If DTC's other than those listed above are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.
If the vehicle operator describes the Symptom/Conditions or can be verified, perform the Repair Procedure.

NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.
1. Reprogram the PCM with the latest software. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical > Electronic Control Modules - Service Information > Module - Powertrain Control > Standard Procedures > PCM/ECM Programming - Gas. After PCM reprogramming, the following must be performed:
a. Clear the Variable Line Pressure (VLP) Counters, found in the StarSCAN� Misc Function Menu. VLP Clear Counters must be completed on all models.
b. Clear any DTC's that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming.
c. Perform the Quick Learn function, found in the StarSCAN� Misc Function Menu.
2. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label" and attach it near the VECI label.
