Installation
INSTALLATION
NOTE: The two transaxle-to-engine bolts next to the inspection cover will have a exhaust bracket under them
1. Install transaxle into position. Install the transaxle-to-engine two outer lower bolts and torque to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.).
2. Install torque converter-to-driveplate bolts (1) and tighten to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.).
3. Install torque converter dust shield and bolt tighten to 6 Nm (53 in. lbs.).
4. Install bolts (2) to stand off bracket (4) and tighten to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.).
5. Install bolts (3) to exhaust bracket.
6. Remove transmission jack.
7. Lower vehicle.
8. Raise engine/transaxle assembly into position with overhead fixture.
9. Install and torque four transaxle-to-engine upper bolts and tighten to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.).
10. Raise vehicle.
11. Install the PTU (if equipped) Installation.
12. Install the propeller shaft (if equipped) Propeller Shaft - Installation.
13. Install starter motor and shim.Starter Motor - Installation.
14. Install starter motor electrical connectors.
15. Install engine front mount/bracket assembly and tighten to 67 Nm (50 ft. lbs.).
16. Install cradle and fixture into position under vehicle.
17. Slowly lower vehicle. Have helper guide power steering and brake hydraulic lines into position, while aligning cradle to body. While lowering vehicle, align engine front and rear mount studs to their respective thru-holes in cradle.
18. Aligning index/scribe mark placed upon disassembly, Install cradle-to-body bolts and torque to 162 Nm (120 ft. lbs.).
19. Verify that power steering and brake hydraulic lines can be properly routed and installed.
20. Remove overhead powertrain support fixture from engine compartment:
a. Remove rear support/lift bracket and connect coolant temperature sensor.
b. Remove front support/lift bracket. Install and torque engine oil dipstick fastener.
21. Raise vehicle on hoist and remove driveline support table.
22. Install and torque engine front and rear mount-to-cradle nuts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).
23. Install steering shaft (1) to (3) gear.
24. Using Installer 6831A, install steering shaft-to-gear coupler roll pin (3).
25. Connect power steering hoses to steering gear. Tighten fittings to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.).
26. Fasten steering hose routing clip to cradle.
27. Install torque strut and tighten to bolts (1) to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).
28. Install halfshaft assemblies Half Shaft - Installation.
29. Install sway bar links to strut attaching points. Tighten link-to-strut nuts to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.).
30. Install ABS sensor brackets (3) to struts (1).
31. Connect ABS sensors.
NOTE: When installing the chassis brake tubes, make sure the correct brake tube is installed in the correct port on the ICU. The brake tubes going to the wheel brakes are as follows:
- (1) - Right front brake
- (2) - Left rear brake
- (3) - Right rear brake
- (4) - Left front brake
32. Install four chassis brake tubes (1, 2, 3, 4) into outlet ports of ICU. Tighten brake tube nuts to 14 Nm (120 in. lbs.).
33. Install both front tire/wheel assemblies.
34. Install coolant bypass tube fasteners.
35. Connect solenoid/pressure switch connector (2).
36. Connect input speed sensor connector.
37. Connect output speed sensor connector.
38. Secure transaxle harness (1) with respective retainers.
39. Install and connect (2) crankshaft position sensor (3) and tighten hold down bolt (1) to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.).
40. Install ground cable to case and torque bolt.
41. Connect oil cooler lines to transaxle. An audible 'click' should be heard. Verify connection by pulling outward.
42. Connect gearshift cable to transaxle manual valve lever. Verify adjustment.
43. Install battery tray. Connect battery temperature sensor Battery Tray - Installation.
44. Install battery.
45. Install battery hold-down clamp.
46. Connect battery cables (1,3).
47. Bleed brake hydraulic system. REFER TO Brake Bleeding.
48. Add power steering fluid as required.
49. Check and adjust transaxle fluid level.
50. AWD models: Check and adjust PTU fluid level.
51. Align front end. REFER TO Service and Repair.
