Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Testing and Inspection

STRUT ASSEMBLY

1. Inspect for a damaged or broken coil spring.
2. Inspect for torn or damaged dust boot (1).
3. Inspect jounce bumper for signs of damage or deterioration.
4. Inspect coil spring isolator on lower spring seat for any signs of damage or deterioration.
5. Lift dust boot (1) and inspect strut (damper) (4) for evidence of fluid running from upper end of fluid reservoir. (Actual leakage will be a stream of fluid running down the side and dripping off lower end of unit). A slight amount of seepage between the strut shaft (2) and strut shaft seal is not unusual and does not affect performance of the strut assembly.
