Engine Torque Specifications







SPECIFICATIONS - TORQUE










CYLINDER HEAD TORQUE AND SEQUENCE

The cylinder head bolts are tightened using a torque plus angle procedure. The bolts must be examined BEFORE reuse. If the threads are necked down the bolts must be replaced..

Necking can be checked by holding a scale or straight edge against the threads. If all the threads do not contact the scale the bolt must be replaced.





NOTE: Before installing the cylinder head bolts, lubricate the threads with engine oil.

1. Insert the front four cylinder head bolts into the cylinder head. Pull the bolts up to the top of their travel and retain with rubber bands.
2. Install the cylinder head over locating dowels and finger tighten the head bolts.
3. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown in. Using the 4 step torque-turn method, tighten according to the following torque values:
- Step 1: All to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.)
- Step 2: All to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.)
- Step 3: All (again) to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.)
- Step 4: + 90° Turn Do not use a torque wrench for this step.





4. Bolt torque after 90° turn should be over 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.) in the tightening direction. If not, replace the bolt.
5. Install the inner timing cover to cylinder head bolts. Tighten bolts to 54 Nm (40 lbs.ft.).

INTAKE MANIFOLD TORQUE AND SEQUENCE





Install intake manifold bolts and gradually tighten in sequence shown until a torque of 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) is obtained.

MAIN BEARING CAP TORQUE AND SEQUENCE

NOTE: Lubricate main bearing cap bolts with engine oil before installation.

1. Install each main cap and tighten bolts finger tight.
2. The main bearing cap bolts must be tightened in the proper sequence. First the inner main cap bolts, secondly the windage tray bolts, lastly the main cap tie (horizontal) bolts.
3. Install the inside main bearing cap bolts and tighten to 20 Nm + 1/4 turn (15 ft. lbs. + 1/4 turn).

ROD BEARING CAP TORQUE

Install rod caps. Install cleaned and inspected connecting rod bolts and tighten to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) Plus 1/4 turn.

HARMONIC BALANCER TORQUE

Install vibration damper bolt. Torque bolt to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.).

FLEX PLATE TORQUE

Flex plate 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.)

OIL PUMP TORQUE

NOTE: DO NOT apply the thread sealant to the underside of the bolt head.

Apply Mopar Thread Sealant as directed on the package to the oil pump cover bolts where indicated. The sealant must be applied from the tip to approximately 10 mm of the thread length. Tighten the oil pump cover bolts to 12 Nm (105 in.lbs.). Tighten oil pump to block bolts to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.)





EXHAUST MANIFOLD TORQUE

Position the exhaust manifold and gasket. Install the retaining bolts. Tighten bolts starting at the center working outward to 23 N.m (200 in. lbs.).

WATER PUMP TORQUE

Install mounting bolts and tighten to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.).
