Fuel Pressure Release: Service and Repair

STANDARD PROCEDURE - FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE

WARNING: The fuel system is under constant pressure even with engine off. Until the fuel pressure has been properly relieved from the system, do not attempt to open the fuel system. Do not smoke or use open flames/sparks when servicing the fuel system. Wear protective clothing and eye protection. Make sure the area in which the vehicle is being serviced is in a well ventilated area.

1. Remove Fuel Pump relay from Power Distribution Center (PDC). For location of relay, refer to label on underside of PDC cover.
2. Start and run engine until it stalls.
3. Attempt restarting engine until it will no longer run.
4. Turn ignition key to the OFF position.
5. Place a rag or towel below fuel line quick-connect fitting at fuel rail.
6. Disconnect quick-connect fitting at fuel rail, Service and Repair.

NOTE: After servicing the fuel system, one or more Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) may have been stored in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) memory due to disconnecting fuel pump module circuit. A diagnostic scan tool must be used to erase a DTC.
