NUMBER: 08-002-08

GROUP: Electrical

DATE: January 31, 2008

THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES SERVICE BULLETINS 08-012-06 REV A, DATED APRIL 13, 2006, 08-031-05, DATED JUNE 18, 2005 AND 08-029-04, DATED AUGUST 10, 2004 WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. THIS IS A COMPLETE REVISION AND NO ASTERISKS HAVE BEEN INCLUDED.

SUBJECT:
Front Power Memory, Heated Seats and/or Adjustable Pedals Performance

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves performing several checks of electrical components and checking the Memory Heated Seat Adjustable Pedal Module for current part number and if need be, replace module.

NOTE:
Fully familiarize yourself with the contents of this bulletin before proceeding.

^ Vehicles built on or before July 5, 2005 (MDH0705XX) (2005 Model Year and earlier) may have an ungrounded upper seat track that can cause the Memory Heated Seat Adjustable Pedal Module to "lock up and become non-responsive.

^ Vehicles built on or before December15, 2005 (MDH1215XX) may have a loose connection in the Integrated Power Module (IPM) that may cause circuit interruption for the power feed to the Memory Heated Seat Adjustable Pedal Module.

^ Static electricity generated in the drivers seat may discharge through the Memory Heated Seat Adjustable Pedal Module causing it to "lock up and become non-responsive.

^ Memory Heated Seat Adjustable Pedal Modules can not be reprogrammed (Flashed) at this time. If the module number is not up to date, module replacement is required.

MODELS:

2004 - 2008 (CS) Pacifica

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The front power memory, heated seats and/or adjustable pedals may exhibit one or more of the following Symptom/Conditions:

^ Heated seats do not get warm enough.

^ Module may become non-responsive (lock up) and the system becomes inoperative.

^ Become inoperative due to a spread electrical terminal in the Integrated Power Module (IPM).

^ Become inoperative due to a seat track grounding issue.

DIAGNOSIS:

1. Open drivers side rear door and using a mirror, look under front seat. Inspect for upper seat track ground on inboard side.(Fig. 9 ), callout # 2 and # 3 for location of ground wire and connection. Is ground wire connection present on upper seat track?

PARTS REQUIRED:

SPECIAL TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

IPM CONNECTOR REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Replace the spread terminal in cavity 15 as follows:

2. Disassemble the C8 connector in order to remove the female terminal from cavity 15.

3. Cut the spread terminal off of the body wiring harness allowing enough wire length to solder the new wire jumper, provided in the kit, onto the wiring harness.

4. Remove one-half (1/2) inch of insulation from the wire jumper, provided in the repair kit, from the body harness wire.

5. Place a piece of adhesive lined heat shrink tubing, provided in the repair kit, on one side of the wire.

6. Place the strands of wire overlapping each other inside of the splice band (Fig 3).

7. Using crimping tool, Mopar p/n 05019912AA, crimp the splice band and wires together (Fig 4).

8. Solder the connection together using rosin core type solder only (Fig 5).

CAUTION:
Do not use acid core solder.

9. Center the heat shrink tubing over the joint and heat using a heat gun. Heat the joint until the tubing is tightly sealed and sealant comes out of both ends of the tubing (Fig 6).

10. Insert the newly repaired terminal into cavity 15 of the White C8 IPM connector.

11. Connect the White C8 connector to the IPM.

12. Position 1PM into place, and lock into position.

13. Install the hood cable retaining clip.

14. Proceed to Step # 1 of: CHECK MODULE PART NUMBER procedure.

CHECK MODULE PART NUMBER:

1. Using the scan tool, determine if the Memory Heated Seat Adjustable Pedal Module is locked up or non-responsive. Is the Memory Heated Seat Adjustable Pedal Module is locked up or non-responsive?

a. Yes >>> continue with Step # 2.

b. No >>> proceed to Step # 6.

2. Open the hood and locate the 40 amp cartridge fuse located in cavity 8 of the IPM.

3. Remove the fuse and wait 20 seconds and then reinstall the fuse to Re-Boot the seat module.

4. Using the scan tool, determine if the Memory Heated Seat Adjustable Pedal Module is locked up or non-responsive. Is the Memory Heated Seat Adjustable Pedal Module is locked up or non-responsive?

a. Yes >>> continue with Step # 5.

b. No >>> proceed to Step # 6.

5. Using a DVOM, voltage drop test the 2 way (power and ground) connector on the Memory Heated Seat Adjustable Pedal Module for proper power and ground. Is a proper power and ground supplied to module?

a. Yes >>> continue with Step # 6.

b. No >>> Repair wiring as needed THEN continue with Step # 6.

6. Check the Memory Heated Seat Adjustable Pedal Module part number using the scan tool and record the part number listed on the module on the repair order.

NOTE:
If the Memory Heated Seat Adjustable Pedal Module part number CANNOT be retrieved with the scan tool, record the number printed on the module on the repair order.

7. Use the table to determine your course of action:

MEMORY HEATED SEAT ADJUSTABLE PEDAL MODULE REPLACEMENT

PROCEDURE:

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.

NOTE:
Module replacement does not always require seat removal. If seat is adjusted too low and access to module is hindered, seat removal is recommended. If module can be accessed and SEAT TRACK GROUNDING is not required, seat does not need to be removed. Proceed to Step 8 below.

2. Raise and support vehicle.

3. If necessary, remove vapor canister to gain access to the seat anchor nuts. Refer to the detailed service information available in TechCONNECT, under: Service Info, 25 - EMISSIONS CONTROL> EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS > VAPOR CANISTER> REMOVAL.

4. Remove four nuts attaching the seat to the floor pan.

5. Lower the vehicle to access the seat.

6. Remove the headrest from seat.

7. Pull the seat rearward and tip the seat so that the top of the seat is resting on the steering wheel. This will allow access to the bottom of the seat.

8. Disconnect the module wire connectors.

9. Remove the memory heated seat adjustable pedal module attaching screws.

10. Remove the module from under drivers seat.

11. Position the appropriate new Memory Heated Seat Adjustable Pedal Module under the drivers seat and fasten it to the seat.

12. Connect the electrical connectors to the module.

13. Inspect for upper seat track ground. Refer to (Fig 9), callout # 2 and # 3 for location of ground connection. Is ground wire connection present on upper seat track?

a. Yes >>> proceed to Step # 13 SEAT TRACK GROUNDING REPAIR PROCEDURE below.

b. No >>> proceed to Step # 8 SEAT TRACK GROUNDING REPAIR PROCEDURE below.

SEAT TRACK GROUNDING REPAIR PROCEDURE:

NOTE:
Seat must be removed to perform this procedure.
