OPERATION

When the rear window defogger switch is pressed, the rear window defogger control circuits within the integrated power module (IPM) sends a request signal to the driver and passenger door module to energize the electric heater grid located behind the glass of each outside rear view mirror. When energized, the heater grids produce heat to help clear each outside rear view mirror of ice, snow, or fog.

If the outside mirror heating grids are both inoperative Testing and Inspection. If only one of the outside mirror heating grids is inoperative Testing and Inspection.

The heating grid behind each outside mirror glass cannot be repaired and the mirror glass must be replaced if found to be inoperative or damaged Outside Rearview Mirror Glass - Removal.
