B1984-POWER LIFTGATE LATCH CONTROL 2 CIRCUIT LOW

- When Monitored:
Anytime the Power Liftgate is in a power cinch or release operation.
- Set Condition:
When the liftgate latch motor cinch or release output circuit is shorted to ground before or during a latch cinch or release operation.
Diagnostic Test
1. DTC PRESENT
With the scan tool, record and erase DTC's.
Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition on.
Operate the power liftgate several times if possible.
With the scan tool, read DTCs.
If the B210D-BATTERY VOLTAGE LOW DTC is present, repair that code before proceeding.
Does the scan tool display B1984-POWER LIFTGATE LATCH CONTROL 2 CIRCUIT LOW?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors for an intermittent condition. Operate the liftgate several times and check for any binding conditions in the latch assembly.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
2. BINDING LIFTGATE LATCH
Examine the liftgate for proper alignment, worn or binding hinges, latch alignment or anything that would cause an obstruction to proper operation.
With an open liftgate, manually close the latch and open it with the handle switch several times.
Were there any mechanical problems found?
Yes
- Repair accordingly.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
No
- Go To 3
3. (Q85) LIFTGATE LATCH RELEASE DRIVER CIRCUIT SHORT TO (Q901) LOGIC GROUND
Disconnect the Liftgate Cinch/Release Motor connector.
Measure the resistance between the (Q901) Logic Ground circuit and the (Q85) Liftgate Latch Release Driver circuit in the Liftgate Cinch/Release Motor connector.
Wiggle the harness and check for an intermittent short circuit condition.
Is the resistance below 100.0 ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (Q85) Liftgate Latch Release Driver circuit for a short to the (Q901) Logic Ground circuit.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
No
- Go To 4
4. (Q84) LIFTGATE LATCH CINCH DRIVER CIRCUIT SHORT TO (Q901) LOGIC GROUND
Measure the resistance between the (Q901) Logic Ground circuit and the (Q84) Liftgate Latch Cinch Driver circuit in the Liftgate Cinch/Release Motor connector.
Wiggle the harness and check for an intermittent short circuit condition.
Is the resistance below 100.0 ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (Q84) Liftgate Latch Cinch Driver circuit for a short to the (Q901) Logic Ground circuit.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
No
- Go To 5
5. (Q85) LIFTGATE LATCH RELEASE DRIVER WIRE SHORT TO GROUND
Disconnect the Power Liftgate Module C2 harness connector.
Measure the resistance between the vehicle ground and the (Q85) Liftgate Latch Release Driver circuit in the PLG Module C2 harness connector.
Wiggle the harness and check for an intermittent short circuit condition.
Is the resistance below 10000.0 ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (Q85) Liftgate Latch Release Driver circuit for a short to ground.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
No
- Go To 6
6. (Q84) LIFTGATE LATCH CINCH DRIVER WIRE SHORT TO GROUND
Measure the resistance between the vehicle ground and the (Q84) Liftgate Latch Cinch Driver circuit in the PLG Module C2 harness connector.
Wiggle the harness and check for an intermittent short circuit condition.
Is the resistance below 10000.0 ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (Q84) Liftgate Latch Cinch Driver circuit for a short to ground.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
No
- Go To 7
7. (Q84) LIFTGATE LATCH CINCH DRIVER CIRCUIT SHORT TO THE (Q85) LIFTGATE LATCH RELEASE DRIVER CIRCUIT
Turn the ignition off.
Measure the resistance between the (Q84) Liftgate Latch Cinch Driver circuit and the (Q85) Liftgate Latch Release Driver Circuit.
Is the resistance below 100 ohms?
No
- Go To 8
Yes
- Repair the (Q84) Liftgate Latch Cinch Driver circuit for a short to the (Q85) Liftgate Latch Release Driver Circuit.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
8. CHECK THE POWER LIFTGATE LATCH CINCH DRIVER
Turn the ignition off.
Reconnect the Power Liftgate Module C2 harness connector.
Turn the ignition on.
While using the scan tool to actuate the Power Liftgate Latch Cinch motor, measure the voltage between the (Q84) Liftgate Latch Cinch Driver circuit and ground.
Is the voltage above 12 volts?
No
- Replace the Power Liftgate Module.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
Yes
- Go To 9
9. CHECK THE POWER LIFTGATE LATCH RELEASE DRIVER
Turn the ignition on
While using the scan tool to actuate the Power Liftgate Latch Release Motor, measure the voltage between the (Q85) Liftgate Latch Release Driver circuit and ground.
Is the voltage above 12 volts?
No
- Replace the Power Liftgate Module.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
Yes
- Replace the Liftgate Cinch/Release Motor Assembly.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
