B1963-POWER LIFTGATE STRUT PERFORMANCE

For a complete wiring diagram Consult Diagrams/Electrical

- When Monitored:
Up to one second after the Power Liftgate Module has completed a power opening cycle.

- Set Condition:
The power liftgate module has detected that the liftgate is falling (25 liftgate drive unit position sensor pulses in 1 second), or did not remain open after disengaging the power liftgate drive unit.

Diagnostic Test

1. DTC PRESENT
With the scan tool, record DTC's and any liftgate inhibitors.
Erase DTC's
Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition on.
Operate the liftgate several times.
With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display B1963-POWER LIFTGATE STRUT PERFORMANCE?

Yes

- Go To 2

No

- Ensure there is no intermittent binding or cold weather condition which may have caused this code to set.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test

2. BINDING LIFTGATE
Operate the liftgate manually.
Does the Liftgate bind or stick while opening or closing?

No

- Go To3

Yes

- Repair the cause for the binding liftgate.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test

3. WEAK STRUTS
Check the prop rods to ensure the liftgate will self rise from approximately 1/4 open position.
If necessary, compare the effort to open and close the liftgate with a known good vehicle.
Does the liftgate self rise as it should?

No

- Replace the Liftgate Prop Rods (struts).
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test

Yes

- Go To4

4. (Q204) POSITION SENSOR SIGNAL 1 AND THE (Q205) POSITION SENSOR SIGNAL 2 CIRCUITS ARE CROSSED OR SHORTED

Trace the (Q204) Position sensor signal 1 circuit and the (Q205) Position Sensor Signal 2 circuits for possibly being crossed between the PLG C1 connector and the Drive Unit connector.
Are the circuits crossed or shorted together?

No

- The condition that caused this code to set is not present at this time. Check the power liftgate module and drive unit connectors for an intermittent condition, and correct any obvious problems.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test

Yes

- Correct the wiring as necessary. If no obvious wiring problems have been identified, replace the Power Liftgate Module.
