B1889-POWER LIFTGATE PINCH SENSOR 1 CIRCUIT HIGH

- When Monitored:
Whenever the Power Liftgate Module is awake.
- Set Condition:
The power liftgate module has detected the left pinch sensor circuit voltage is above 4.6 volts for over 10 seconds.
Diagnostic Test
1. DTC PRESENT
With the scan tool, record DTC's and any liftgate inhibitors.
Erase DTC's
Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition on.
Operate the liftgate several times.
With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display B1889-POWER LIFTGATE PINCH SENSOR 1 CIRCUIT HIGH?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors for an intermittent condition.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
2. (Q75) LEFT PINCH SENSOR SIGNAL SHORT TO VOLTAGE
Remove the Liftgate trim panel.
Disconnect the Liftgate Left Pinch Sensor connector.
Measure the voltage between ground and the (Q75 ) Left Pinch Sensor Signal circuit in the Left Pinch Sensor connector.
Is the voltage above 5.2 volts?
No
- Go To 3
Yes
- Repair the Left Pinch Sensor Signal circuit for a short to battery
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
3. (Q901) LOGIC GROUND OPEN
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Liftgate Right Pinch Sensor connector.
Measure the resistance between ground and the (Q901) Logic Ground circuit in the Liftgate Right Pinch Sensor connector.
Is the resistance below 14.0 ohms?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the (Q901) Logic Ground circuit for an open.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
4. POWER LIFTGATE MODULE
NOTE: Each pinch sensor has a 10,000.0 (10k) resistor built in. Therefore, the total resistance of the pinch sensor circuit is approximately 20,000.0 (20k) ohms.
Connect the Liftgate Right Pinch Sensor connector
Connect the Liftgate Left Pinch Sensor connector
Disconnect the Power Liftgate Module C2 connector.
Measure the resistance between the (Q901) Logic Ground circuit and the (Q75) Pinch Sensor Signal circuit in the PLGM C2 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 22000.0 ohms?
No
- Go To 5
Yes
- Replace the Power Liftgate Module.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
5. LEFT PINCH SENSOR SIGNAL WIRE OPEN
Connect the Power Liftgate Module C2 connector.
Disconnect the Liftgate Left Pinch Sensor connector.
Turn the ignition on.
Measure the voltage between ground and the (Q75) Left Pinch Sensor Signal circuit in the Liftgate Left Pinch Sensor connector.
Is the voltage between 4.5 and 5.2 volts?
No
- Go To 6
Yes
- Go To 7
6. (Q75) LEFT PINCH SENSOR SIGNAL WIRE OPEN
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Power Liftgate Module C2 connector.
Measure the resistance of the (Q75) Liftgate Left Pinch Sensor Signal circuit between the Liftgate Left Pinch Sensor connector and the PLGM C2 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 2.0 ohms?
Yes
- Replace the Power Liftgate Module.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
No
- Repair the (Q75) Left Pinch Sensor Signal wire for an open.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
7. RIGHT PINCH SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN
Connect the Liftgate Left Pinch Sensor connector.
Disconnect the Liftgate Right Pinch Sensor connector.
Measure the voltage between ground and the (Q77) Right Pinch Sensor Signal circuit in the Liftgate Right Pinch Sensor connector.
Is the voltage between 4.5 and 5.2 volts?
No
- Go To 8
Yes
- Replace the Liftgate Right Pinch Sensor.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
8. LEFT PINCH SENSOR OPEN
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Liftgate Left Pinch Sensor connector.
Measure the resistance of the (Q77) Right Pinch Sensor Signal wire between the Liftgate Right Pinch Sensor connector and the Liftgate Left Pinch Sensor connector.
Is the resistance below 1.0 ohm?
No
- Repair the Right Pinch Sensor Signal wire for an open.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
Yes
- Replace the Liftgate Left Pinch Sensor.
- PERFORM BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
