Tire Pressure Sensor: Testing and Inspection

STANDARD PROCEDURE - TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR RETRAINING

If the vehicle tires have been rotated, or if a Tire Pressure Sensor/Transmitter has been replaced the TPM Module must be Retrained in order to identify the Tire Pressure Sensors/Transmitters. Proper identification of each of the Tire Pressure Sensors/Transmitters is necessary in order to identify which wheel is transmitting a signal to the module.

NOTE: The Tire Pressure Sensor Retraining procedure must use the scan tool in conjunction with the Miller Tool 8821 Re-Learn Magnet.

NOTE: When retraining the Tire Pressure Sensors/Transmitters, the magnet should be moved from wheel to wheel in a clockwise direction starting at the Left Front Wheel. There is a maximum time limit of 60 seconds for each tire. If the scan tool cannot read the sensor within the 60 seconds, the scan tool determines the time-out has been reached, and the retraining will be discontinued. If the retraining is not completed, the TPM module will then set the "Training Failed" DTC.

1. Connect a scan tool scan tool to the vehicle's diagnostic connector beneath the Instrument Panel near the steering column.
2. Access the Chassis System using the scan tool.
3. Once in the Chassis System, select "Miscellaneous Functions".
4. The following System Test menu selections will appear:
- Train All Mode
- Stop Train Mode

5. Select "Train All Mode" from the System Test menu selection.
6. Using the scan tool, select "Yes" to continue.
7. Place the Special Tool 8821 Re-Learn Magnet, over the valve stem of the Left Front Wheel.
8. Each Tire Pressure Sensor/Transmitter will automatically sense the presence of the magnet and begin transmitting. When the pressure sensor/transmitter on each wheel has been programmed, the scan tool will automatically BEEP and direct you to the next wheel to be programmed. Remove the magnet and move to each of the remaining wheels as directed by the scan tool.
9. Remove the magnet from the Left Rear Wheel.
10. Once "Training Completed" is displayed, exit the program function screen and use the following to verify the TPM functionality:
- Verify the TPM module programming is complete by viewing the Input/Output Display selection of the scan tool and confirming the Tire Pressure Sensors are trained.
- Verify the TPM module programming is complete by viewing the Sensor Display selection of the scan tool and confirm the Tire Pressure Sensor pressure readings are accurate.
