8000 - 8999: 8001

8001 - TRAINING FAILED

When Monitored and Set Condition

- When Monitored: With the ignition ON, the Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) module monitors the Tire Pressure Sensor/Transmitters during the training process.
- Set Condition: The Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) module will only set this code if the module does not receive a signal from any Tire Pressure Sensor/Transmitter during the training process.

Diagnostic Test

1. VERIFY OPERATION OF LEFT FRONT TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR/TRANSMITTER
NOTE: DTC 8001 can ONLY be set during the tire training process. If while using the scan tool, and for some reason the training process is interrupted (no signal from transmitter, transmitter time-out, etc.) the TPM will set this DTC.

NOTE: If the Tire Pressure Sensors/Transmitters prove to be operating correctly using the RF Signal Detector, and the TPM module still cannot identify a signal from one or more of the Tire Pressure Sensors/Transmitters during the training process, the vehicle should be moved a few feet. The location of the Tire Pressure Sensors/Transmitters could be in a position that does not allow a clear signal transmission. After moving the vehicle, again attempt to train the Tire Pressure Sensors/Transmitters.

NOTE: Use this test in conjunction with Miller Tool 9001 (RF Signal Detector) and Miller Tool 8821 (Re-Learn Magnet) to verify the operation of the Tire Pressure Sensors/Transmitters.

NOTE: This test will be used to verify the functionality of each Tire Pressure Sensor/Transmitter.

Turn the ignition OFF.
Place the 8821 Re-Learn Magnet over the valve stem of the Left Front Tire.
Hold the 9001 Radio Frequency Detector within one inch of the tire valve.
Monitor the Radio Frequency signal of the Tire Pressure Sensor/Transmitter.
Does the RF Detector detect a signal from the Left Front Tire Sensor?

No

- Replace the Left Front Tire Pressure Sensor/Transmitter Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) Sensor - Removal.

Yes

- Go to 2

2. VERIFY OPERATION OF RIGHT FRONT TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR/TRANSMITTER
With the ignition OFF.
Place the 8821 Re-Learn Magnet over the valve stem of the Right Front Tire.
Hold the 9001 Radio Frequency Detector within one inch of the tire valve.
Monitor the Radio Frequency signal of the Tire Pressure Sensor/Transmitter.
Does the RF Detector detect a signal from the Right Front Tire Sensor?

No

- Replace the Right Front Tire Pressure Sensor/Transmitter Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) Sensor - Removal.

Yes

- Go to 3

3. VERIFY OPERATION OF RIGHT REAR TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR/TRANSMITTER
With the ignition OFF.
Place the 8821 Re-Learn Magnet over the valve stem of the Right Rear Tire.
Hold the 9001 Radio Frequency Detector within one inch of the tire valve.
Monitor the Radio Frequency signal of the Tire Pressure Sensor/Transmitter.
Does the RF Detector detect a signal from the Right Rear Tire Sensor?

No

- Replace the Right Rear Tire Pressure Sensor/Transmitter Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) Sensor - Removal.

Yes

- Go to 4

4. VERIFY OPERATION OF LEFT REAR TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR/TRANSMITTER
With the ignition OFF.
Place the 8821 Re-Learn Magnet over the valve stem of the Left Rear Tire.
Hold the 9001 Radio Frequency Detector within one inch of the tire valve.
Monitor the Radio Frequency signal of the Tire Pressure Sensor/Transmitter.
Does the RF Detector detect a signal from the Left Rear Tire Sensor?

No

- Replace the Left Rear Tire Pressure Sensor/Transmitter Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) Sensor - Removal.

Yes

- Go to 5

5. RETRAINING THE LEFT FRONT TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR/TRANSMITTER
NOTE: Use this test in conjunction with the scan tool and Miller Tool 8821 (Re-Learn Magnet) to attempt to Retrain all the Tire Pressure Sensors/Transmitters.

Turn the ignition ON.
With the scan tool, read and record the TPM DTCs.
With the scan tool, erase the TPM DTCs.
Using the scan tool, navigate to the Chassis System of the scan tool and begin retraining by selecting the "Train All Mode".

NOTE: While retraining, the TPM module must detect a signal within a one minute time frame or the retraining process will time-out and the TPM module will store a 8001 DTC.

Using the Miller Tool 8821 Re-Learn Magnet, start at the Left Front Tire Pressure Sensor/Transmitter and attempt to retrain the Tire Pressure Sensors to the TPM module.
Does the scan tool detect the Left Front Tire Sensor?

No

- Replace the TPM module Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) Module - Removal.

Yes

- Go to 6

6. RETRAINING RIGHT FRONT TIRE PRESSURE TRANSMITTER
With the ignition on.
Move the magnet to the Right Front Tire Pressure Sensor.
Does the scan tool detect the Right Front Tire Sensor?

No

- Replace the TPM module Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) Module - Removal.

Yes

- Go to 7

7. RETRAINING RIGHT REAR TIRE PRESSURE TRANSMITTER
With the ignition on.
Move the magnet to the Right Rear Tire Pressure Sensor.
Does the scan tool detect the Right Rear Tire Sensor?

No

- Replace the TPM module Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) Module - Removal.

Yes

- Go to 8

8. RETRAINING LEFT REAR TIRE PRESSURE TRANSMITTER
With the ignition on.
Move the magnet to the Left Rear Tire Pressure Sensor.
Does the scan tool detect the Left Rear Tire Sensor?

No

- Replace the TPM module Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) Module - Removal.

Yes

- The training is now complete, and the scan tool should display "Training Complete".
