No Response From ORC (Occupant Restraint Controller Module)







*NO RESPONSE FROM OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER





Diagnostic Test

1. CHECK COMMUNICATION WITH OCM
Turn the ignition on.
Using the scan tool, attempt to communicate with the OCM.
Is the scan tool able to communicate with the OCM?

Yes

- Go to 2

No

- Check the CAN Interior Bus circuits for an open (between the DLC and the spice), short to ground or short to voltage.

2. FUSED IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait two minutes before proceeding.

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) harness connector.

NOTE: Check connector - Clean/repair as necessary.

WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, turn the ignition on, then reconnect the battery.

Measure the voltage of both Fused Ignition Switch Output circuits at the ORC harness connector.
Is the voltage above 10 volts?

Yes

- Go to 3

No

WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait two minutes before proceeding.

- Repair the Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit for an open.
- Perform *AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST. Airbag System Verification Test

3. ORC GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN
Turn the ignition off.
Measure the resistance of the Ground circuits from the ORC harness connector to ground.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?

Yes

- Go to 4

No

- Repair the Ground circuit for an open.
- Perform AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST. Airbag System Verification Test

4. CAN INTERIOR BUS CIRCUITS OPEN
Measure the resistance of the CAN Interior Bus circuits from the ORC harness connector to the DLC.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms for both circuits?

Yes

- Replace the Occupant Restraint Controller. Occupant Restraint Controller - Removal.

WARNING: If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment and serious or fatal injury.

- Perform *AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST. Airbag System Verification Test

No

- Repair the CAN Interior Bus circuit for an open.
- Perform *AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST. Airbag System Verification Test
