Body - Sunroof Water Leaks

SUBJECT:
Sunroof Water Leak into Passenger Compartment

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting rear sunroof drain tubes for kink and installing convolute tubing over drain hose to prevent kinking. Items placed in the trunk may interfere with drain tube routing and/or cause tube to kink.

MODELS:

2007 - 2008 (JS41) Sebring

2008 (JS41) Avenger

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a sunroof (sales code GWG) built before December 14, 2007 (MDH1214XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The vehicle operator may experience water leaking from sunroof area onto floor of vehicle.

DIAGNOSIS:





If the vehicle operator experiences the Symptom/Condition, remove 2 push pins at each rear corner retaining the trunk liner/sound deadener to inspect the drain tubing for the sunroof on the right and left sides of the trunk (behind wheel well) for a kink or restriction. Wether OR NOT the drain tubes shows evidence of kinking , (Fig. 1) perform the Repair Procedure on BOTH sides. If the tubing is NOT kinked and water is leaking into passenger compartment, further diagnosis is required.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

NOTE:
Perform this procedure to both sides of the vehicle.

1. Cut 2 pieces of convolute tubing to 10 (250 mm) each.





2. Open the slit in the convolute tubing and feed over the sunroof drain tube starting at the body mount clip and down to where the tube exits the body behind the wheel well (Fig. 2).

3. Repeat this procedure for the other side of the vehicle.

NOTE:
If necessary, duct tape may be used to hold drain tube forward to prevent interference with trunk liner/sound deadener.

4. Replace trunk liner/sound deadening material making sure drain tube is routed as far forward as possible to ensure trunk liner/sound deadener does not push on the drain tube(s).
