Occupant Restraint Controller - Installation

INSTALLATION

WARNING: On vehicles equipped with the Occupant Classification System (OCS), never replace both the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) and the Occupant Classification Module (OCM) at the same time. If both require replacement, replace the OCM first. Then perform the Airbag System test including an ignition-On time of at least one minute before replacing the ORC. Both the ORC and the OCM store OCS calibration data, which they transfer to one another during the first minute of ignition-On time after one of them is replaced. If both modules are replaced at the same time, an irreversible fault will be set in both modules.

1. Position ORC (1) in vehicle on top of the floor tunnel (5).

2. Install the three retaining screws (2) to the ORC (1). One on the left side of the floor tunnel (5), and one in front of (toward bulkhead) and behind (toward vehicle rear) the ORC unit. Tighten screws to 14.5 Nm (128 in. lbs.).

3. From the right side of the vehicle, connect the two ORC electrical connectors (2 and 3, referred to as C1 and C2 in the diagnostic information and wiring).

4. Install the left and right forward console closeout panels (1).

WARNING: Do not connect the battery negative cable. Personal injury or death may result if the system test is not performed first.

WARNING: Following successful completion of the Airbag System test procedure, the Occupant Classification System Verification Test must be done using a scan tool and the appropriate diagnostic information.

5. Close hood.
