GEARSHIFT MECHANISM

REMOVAL
(1) Disconnect negative battery cable and isolate.

(2) Remove the gearshift knob set screw (2) (Fig. 216) and knob (1).

(3) Remove gearshift bezel (2) (Fig. 217), disconnect range indicator lamp connector (3).

(4) Remove center console assembly (1) (Fig. 218).
(5) Loosen nut on shift cable adjust lever.

(6) Using a flat blade pry tool, remove the shifter cable core end (2) (Fig. 219) from the shift lever pin (4).
(7) Using a flat blade pry tool, pry the cable conduit clip up from the shifter bracket. Pull up on the cable conduit and remove from bracket (3).

(8) Release interlock cable adjuster (1) (Fig. 220) end by inserting pointed object into shift bracket to disengage lock.

(9) Unsnap the shifter/ignition interlock cable adjuster end (2) from the slot in the gearshift mechanism bracket and disconnect cable core from shifter assembly (1) (Fig. 221).

(10) Unplug autostick connector (1) (Fig. 222).

(11) Remove the five nuts (1) (Fig. 223) at the base of the shifter assembly (2). Remove assembly from vehicle.

INSTALLATION

Fig.224 Shifter Assembly:

(1) Install shifter mechanism (2) (Fig. 224). mechanism-to-floor pan nuts to 17 Nm (150 inch lbs.).

(2) Install gearshift cable (2) (Fig. 225) into conduit bracket (3) and onto shift pin (4). Install retainer clip (1).

Fig.226 Interlock Cable At Floor Shifter Assembly:

(3) Tighten cable adjuster nut to 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.).
(4) Insert interlock cable core wire into interlock adjustment lever groove. Make sure the interlock cable (2) slug is seated in the groove.
(5) Insert interlock cable adjuster end into bracket and snap into place.
(6) Adjust the gearshift and interlock cables.

NOTE: Gearshift and Interlock cables MUST be adjusted.

(7) If equipped with Autostick, connect the Autostick connector (1) (Fig. 227).

(8) Install center console assembly (1) (Fig. 228).

Fig.229 Gearshift Bezel:

(9) Connect range indicator lamp (3) (Fig. 229) and install gearshift bezel (2).

Fig.230 Shift Knob Removal/Installation:

(10) Install the gearshift knob (1) (Fig. 230) and tighten set screw (2) to 2 Nm (20 inch lbs.).
(11) Connect the battery negative cable.
