Front Suspension

FRONT SUSPENSION

REMOVAL - STABILIZER BAR

(1) Raise and support the vehicle.

(2) Remove the nuts and stabilizer bar link assemblies from the lower control arms (Fig. 55). When removing link nut, keep the stud from turning by installing an Allen wrench in the end of the stud (Fig. 55).

(3) Remove the four bolts attaching the stabilizer bar bushing retainers (clamps) to the front suspension crossmember and body (Fig. 56). Remove the stabilizer bar bushing retainers.
(4) Remove the stabilizer bar (Fig. 56).

STABILIZER BAR INSPECTION
Inspect for broken or distorted stabilizer bar bushings, retainers and links. If stabilizer bar bushing replacement is required, each bushing can be removed using the stabilizer bar.
If inspection determines that replacement of a stabilizer bar link is required, replace the link before installing the stabilizer bar.

REMOVAL - STABILIZER BAR BUSHING
(1) Remove the stabilizer bar from the front crossmember.

(2) Bend back the four crimp locations on the stabilizer bar bushing retainer (Fig. 57).
(3) Separate the stabilizer bar bushing retainer.
(4) Opening the slit and peel the bushing off the stabilizer bar.

INSTALLATION - STABILIZER BAR
(1) Position stabilizer bar and bushings as an assembly into the front crossmember (Fig. 56).
(2) Position the stabilizer bar bushing retainers and install the bushing retainer bolts (Fig. 56). Tighten the bushing retainer attaching bolts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
(3) Align stabilizer bar link assemblies with the mounting holes in the lower control arms. Install the stabilizer bar links into both lower control arms. Install the link retaining nuts. Tighten the stabilizer bar link nuts to 105 Nm (77 ft. lbs.).
(4) Lower the vehicle.

INSTALLATION - STABILIZER BAR BUSHING
(1) Install the new stabilizer bar bushings on the stabilizer bar. Bushings must be installed on stabilizer bar with slit in bushing facing front of vehicle when the bar is installed.
(2) Install bushing retainers back on stabilizer bar bushings and close crimps (Fig. 57).
(3) Install stabilizer bar on front crossmember.
