REAR SUSPENSION

INSTALLATION - REARWARD LATERAL LINK

CAUTION: Do not attempt to straighten or repair a lateral link. Do not apply heat to the lateral link adjusting screws or to the jam nuts (if so equipped) for any reason.

CAUTION: If the vehicle has a nonadjustable rear link, install the link such that the bushing with the letter "A" molded into its rubber attaches to the crossmember and the bushing with the letter "B" molded into its rubber attaches to the knuckle.

NOTE: If equipped, the rearward lateral link is to be installed with the adjusting screw toward rear suspension crossmember, not rear knuckle.

(1) Install the lateral link with the attaching nut and bolt at the rear suspension crossmember (Fig. 12). Do not tighten bolt at this time.
(2) Install the lateral link with the attaching nut, bolt and washer at the rear knuckle (Fig. 11). Tighten the lateral link-to-knuckle bolt nut to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.).
(3) Tighten the lateral link-to-crossmember bolt nut to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.).
(4) Install the wheel and tire assembly Progressively tighten the wheel mounting nuts in crisscross sequence until all nuts are torqued to half specification. Repeat the tightening sequence to the full specified torque of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
(5) Lower the vehicle.
(6) Check and reset rear wheel Camber (if applicable) and Toe to specifications if required.
