SUBJECT:
Convertible Top Wear

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves rerouting the wires to the rear window.

MODELS:

2001 - 2006 (JR) Sebring Convertible

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Convertible top edge is worn above quarter window(s) and/or at lower left and/or right of the rear window. This symptom can be caused by the routing of the wires to the rear window.

DIAGNOSIS:

Whenever addressing the above symptoms, in addition to using already established repair procedures in the service information available on TechCONNECT, also perform the Repair Procedure below.

PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Remove the forward most carpet and the headliner attachment screws (in the convertible top storage well).

2. Disconnect rear defroster wire from the grid terminal (if terminal repair is necessary, use the service information available on TechCONNECT).

3. Remove the wire from the fabric sleeve on convertible top.

4. Fold the wire back on itself at the clip that attaches the wire harness to the body and secure with a tie strap, p/n 05073039AA. Keep defroster wire length reduction to minimum, (Fig. 1).

5. **Cut material off of the bottom of the convertible top fabric sleeve for defroster wire so 60 mm (2-3/8 in.) of sleeve material remains, (Fig. 2).

6. Cut a 15 mm (5/8 in.) cross slit in the carpet 60 mm (2-3/8 in.) from the top edge of carpet and 30 mm (1-1/4 in.) forward of the 4th tack strip stud from front of vehicle, (Fig. 2).

7. Route the rear defroster wire through the slit in carpet, continue up through the fabric wire sleeve on the convertible top and then connect the wire to the grid terminal on the rear window. Ensure that wire is pulled completely through carpet.

8. Install the carpet and headliner attachment screws.

9. Repeat steps 1-8 on opposite side of vehicle.

10. Cycle top down and up. Ensure that all connections are secure and rear window defroster is functioning properly.

POLICY:
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
