Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

WARNING: REFER TO THE APPLICABLE WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS FOR THIS SYSTEM BEFORE PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING OPERATION. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.

1. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system.
2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the front fascia.
4. Remove the upper radiator support crossmember
5. If equipped, disconnect the automatic transmission cooler lines from the left end of the A/C condenser and install plugs in, or tape over the cooler line fittings and the cooler ports.

A/C Condenser - 2.4L Turbo Engine:

A/C Condenser - All Other Engines:

6. Disconnect the A/C discharge line and the A/C liquid line from A/C condenser.
7. If equipped, remove the power steering fluid cooler from the A/C condenser and position it out of the way.
8. Remove the two bolts that secure the A/C condenser to the radiator.
9. Carefully lift the A/C condenser straight up and out of the engine compartment.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: If the A/C condenser is being replaced, add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.

Carefully position the A/C condenser onto the radiator in the engine compartment.
1. Install the two bolts that secure the A/C condenser to the radiator. Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (45 in. lbs.).
2. If equipped, install the power steering fluid cooler onto the A/C condenser.
3. Connect the A/C discharge line and the A/C liquid line onto the A/C condenser.
4. If equipped, remove the tape or plugs from the automatic transmission cooler lines and the cooler ports located on the left end of the A/C condenser and connect the lines to the ports.
5. Install the upper radiator support crossmember.
6. Install the front fascia.
7. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
8. Evacuate the refrigerant system.
9. Charge the refrigerant system.
10. Check the automatic transmission fluid level as required. Fill as required.
