MODEL YEAR AND REPAIR PROCEDURE APPLICATIONS.
SUBJECT:
Shudder/Chatter/Creak Sound During Upward Movement Of **A Window**
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves cleaning and greasing the window regulator channel(s).
MODELS:
2001 - **2004** (JR) Sebring Convertible
2000 - **2004** (LH) LHS/300M/Concorde/Intrepid
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
On the JR convertible vehicles, the glass may shudder/chatter or creak when going up. On LH vehicles, a creaking sound may be heard at the belt area near the "B" pillar when the window is run full up.
DIAGNOSIS:
Run the windows down and up, if a shudder/chatter/creak sound is observed perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
JR-Vehicles, Front
1. Run the door glass all the way up then very slightly down.
2. Use the procedures outlined in the appropriate service manual to remove the door trim panel starting with step 2.
3. Remove/pull back the water shield as necessary to gain access to the rear glass channel/liftplate.
4. Use a pencil to mark the position of the screw/washer assemblies on the liftplate to ease adjustment of the glass during reassembly (Fig. 1)
5. Remove the screws attaching the liftplate to the glass.
6. Remove the nut attaching the top of the channel to the inner door panel.
7. Use an allen wrench to hold the jack screw stationary, then remove the channel attaching nut.
8. Remove the rear glass channel/liftplate assembly from the door.
9. Remove the grease from the glass channel/liftplate assembly with mineral spirits (or equivalent) using a paper towel or rag. Two passes with mineral spirits and a drying pass should be sufficient.
10. Grease the channel/liftplate assembly with BSR Kit Lubricant, p/n 05019061AA, especially in the areas that the guides contact along the sides.
11. Install the channel/liftplate assembly into the door, torque the upper nut to 9-12 Nm (80-106 in. lbs.).
12. Use an allen wrench to hold the jack screw stationary, and torque the lower nut to 6.1-8.5 Nm (54-75 in. lbs.).
13. Install the liftplate to glass washer/screws and align with the marks made in step 3. Torque the washer/screws to 6.1-8.5 Nm (54-75 in. lbs.).
14. Operate the glass up and down several times to verify the shudder/chatter/creak sound has been eliminated.
15. Verify the glass is adjusted properly.
16. Use the procedures outlined in the appropriate service manual to install the door trim panel and water shield.
17. Verify the function of the remote handle, door lock, courtesy lamp, window switches, power mirror, and speakers.
18. Repeat procedure on other window regulator as necessary.
**JR-Vehicles, Quarter
1. Use the procedures outlined in the appropriate service manual or the information on TechCONNECT to remove the window regulator, DO NOT separate the glass from the regulator.
2. Remove the grease from the regulator slider run channels with mineral spirits (or equivalent) using a paper towel or rag. Two passes with mineral spirits and a drying pass should be sufficient.
3. Apply BSR Kit Lubricant, p/n 05019061AA, to the channels in the areas where sliders operate. Make sure to apply grease on all inner "C" channels as well as the slider's ball joint pivot socket.
4. Use the procedures outlined in the appropriate service manual or the information on TechCONNECT to install the window regulator.
5. Operate the glass up and down several times to verify the shudder/chatter/creak sound has been eliminated.
6. Repeat procedure on other quarter window regulator as necessary **
LH-Vehicles, **Front or Rear**
1. Run the door glass all the way up then very slightly down.
2. Apply masking or duct tape the door glass and door frame to hold the glass in position while the window regulator is removed.
3. Use the procedures outlined in the appropriate service manual or the information on TechCONNECT to remove the door trim panel and water shield.
4. Use the procedures outlined in the appropriate service manual or the information on TechCONNECT to remove the window regulator.
5. Remove the grease from the regulator slider run channels with mineral spirits (or equivalent) using a paper towel or rag. Two passes with mineral spirits and a drying pass should be sufficient.
NOTE:
Care must be taken not to get mineral spirits into the slider's ball joint pivot socket
6. Apply BSR Kit Lubricant, p/n 05019061AA, to the channels in the areas where sliders operate. Make sure to apply grease on all inner "C" channels as well as the slider's ball joint pivot socket.
NOTE:
Prior to tightening the window regulator fasteners, adjust the glass correctly by:
^ With the glass near the full up position, square the glass in the opening by pulling rearward against the "b" pillar glass run.
^ Adjust the tension by pushing down on the equalizer channel with enough force (2 lbs. max) to take out any looseness in the system and tighten the fastener. Do not over adjust.
7. Use the procedures outlined in the appropriate service manual or the information on TechCONNECT to install the window regulator.
8. Operate the glass up and down several times to verify the shudder/chatter/creak sound has been eliminated.
9. Use the procedures outlined in the appropriate service manual or the information on TechCONNECT to install the door trim panel and water shield.
10. Verify the function of the remote handle, door lock, courtesy lamp, window switches, power mirror, and speakers.
11. Repeat procedure on other window regulators as necessary.
