OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves adjusting the front fender(s) and/or replacing the retaining clip at the front of the door outer belt molding/weatherstrip(s) and touch up painting the molding/weatherstrip(s) and/or front fender(s).
MODELS:
2001 - **2004** (JR) Sebring Convertible
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The vehicle may exhibit a rattle and/or squeak and/or tick sound from base of one or both A-pillars when driving.
DIAGNOSIS:
Visually inspect the upper rear corner of the fender for contact with door outer belt molding/weatherstrips, if contact is evident, perform the Repair Procedure (Fig. 1).
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Raise the hood and loosen the two rearmost bolts attaching the front fender to the upper rail.
2. Adjust the position of the fender outboard at the rear so the fender is over-flush to the door by 2.5-3.0 mm as measured at the upper rear corner of the fender, refer to (Fig. 1).
3. Tighten the bolts attaching the front fender to the upper rail.
4. Determine if the front of the door outer belt molding/weatherstrip is retained tight to the door by pressing down on the forward end of the molding. If any up/down looseness is evident, the S-clip for the door outer belt molding/weatherstrip must be replaced. If the door outer belt molding/weatherstrip is tight (inboard/outboard movement is OK) skip to step 16.
5. Open the door and roll the window glass down.
6. Use a plastic trim stick to pry the side view mirror flag trim cover from the door and set aside.
7. Remove the three nuts attaching the side view mirror to the door and pull the mirror away from the door.
8. Push the mirror wiring grommet out, if equipped, and pull the mirror wiring through the hole until the mirror can hang over the door to the inside of the vehicle.
9. CAREFULLY pull up on the front end of the door outer belt molding/weatherstrip until it disengages from the S-clip. Excessive/reckless force may kink the molding.
10. Use a small screwdriver to pry/remove the S-clip from the door flange.
11. Install a new S-clip, p/n 06504336, on the door flange.
12. Align the flange of the door outer belt molding/weatherstrip with the opening in the S-clip and press down on the molding/weatherstrip until it is fully engaged in the S-clip.
13. Align the mirror with its installed position and pull the wiring back through the hole and then seat the grommet, if equipped.
14. Install the mirror to the door and tighten the nuts to 6 Nm (53 in. lbs.).
15. Install the side view mirror flag trim cover by aligning the retainer clips with the slots and pressing into place.
16. Use touch up paint to correct any paint issue on the upper rear corner of the fender and the front end of the door outer belt molding/weatherstrip.
17. Repeat steps 1-16 as necessary for the other side, if required.
