Body/Interior - Dash Area Wind Noise Above 65 MPH

SUBJECT:
Wind Noise Is Heard From The Upper Plenum Area

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves sealing the dash silencer to upper plenum fastening pins.

MODELS:

2001 - 2006 (JR) Sebring Sedan/Sebring Convertible/Stratus Sedan

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Wind noise is heard from the upper plenum/base of windshield area when traveling with relative wind speeds in excess of 65 mph (105 Kph) such as when the vehicle speed is 55 mph into a 10mph head wind.

DIAGNOSIS:

Test drive the vehicle on an appropriate highway so a relative wind speed in excess of 65 mph is obtained. If a wind noise is heard coming from the upper plenum/base of windshield area preform the Repair Procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Use the procedures outlined in TechCONNECT 8-Electrical/Audio/Speaker/Removal to remove both instrument panel mounted speakers.





2. Fully seat the push pins securing the silencer pad below the speaker locations, (Fig. 1).

3. Apply a piece of High Density Urethane Foam Tape , p/n 05019056AA, or equivalent, over each push pin. Ensure the tape is fully sealed to the silencer pad.

4. Use the procedures outlined in TechCONNECT 8-Electrical/Audio/Speaker/Installation to install both instrument panel mounted speakers.
