OIL PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE

REMOVAL
1. Remove the oil pan.
2. Remove the pressure relief valve by remove the threaded retaining cap from the oil pump housing.





CAUTION: Oil pump pressure relief valve must be installed as shown in (Fig. 92) or engine damage may occur.

3. Remove spring and relief valve (Fig. 92).

INSPECTION
1. Inspect oil pressure relief valve plunger for scoring and free operation in its bore. Small marks may be removed with 400-grit wet or dry sandpaper.
2. The relief valve spring has a free length of approximately 49.5 mm (1.95 in.) it should test between 101 - 110 N (23 - 25 lbs.) when compressed to 34 mm (1.34 in.). Replace spring that fails to meet specifications.

INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate relief valve with oil.

CAUTION: The pressure relief valve must be installed as shown in (Fig. 92), or engine damage may occur.

2. Install relief valve, spring and retainer cap (Fig. 92). Tighten cap to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.).
3. Install the oil pan.
