Body - Door Glass Rubbing/Screeching Sound

SUBJECT:
Door Glass Rub/Screech/Squeak Sound

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves adjusting the lower sash in the door that is emitting the rub/screech/squeak sound.

MODELS:

2003 ST Sebring Coupe/Stratus Coupe

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The vehicle may exhibit a rub/screech/squeak sound when the window is raised from the down position in one or both doors.

DIAGNOSIS:

Lower the glass completely in the each door. Raise the glass and listen for a rub/screech/squeak sound. If the Symptom/Condition is present, perform the Repair Procedure in the affected door.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Remove the appropriate door trim panel. Refer to the service information available in TechCONNECT or the Sebring/Stratus Coupe Service Manual, Volume 4, publication number 81-270-03031D, page 23C-40.





2. Loosen the lower sash upper and lower nuts (Fig. 1).

3. Right hand door, proceed to step 4. Left hand door, proceed to step 5.

4. Right hand door:

a. Slide the lower nut rearward and tighten to 10 - 15 Nm (88 - 133 in. lbs.).

b. Slide the upper nut forward and tighten to 10 - 15 Nm (88 - 133 in. lbs.).

c. Proceed to step 6.

5. Left hand door:

a. Slide the upper nut forward and tighten to 10 - 15 Nm (88 - 133 in. lbs.).

b. Slide the lower nut rearward and tighten to 10 - 15 Nm (88 - 133 in. lbs.).

c. Proceed to step 6.

6. Lower the glass completely in the affected door. Raise the glass and listen for a rub/screech/squeak sound.

7. If the sound is no longer present, proceed to step 14. If sound is present, proceed to next step.

8. Remove the sash.

9. Inspect the lower part of the sash for a tang that is contacting the glass. Fold the tang inward, clamping onto the vinyl.

10. Install the sash and loosely install the upper and lower nuts (Fig. 1)

11. Right hand door, proceed to step 12. Left hand door, proceed to step 13.

12. Right hand door:

a. Slide the lower nut rearward and tighten to 10 - 15 Nm (88 - 133 in. lbs.).

b. Slide the upper nut forward and tighten to 10 - 15 Nm (88 - 133 in. lbs.).

c. Proceed to step 14.

13. Left hand door:

a. Slide the upper nut forward and tighten to 10 - 15 Nm (88 - 133 in. lbs.).

b. Slide the lower nut rearward and tighten to 10 - 15 Nm (88 - 133 in. lbs.).

c. Proceed to step 14.

14. Install the trim panel.
