SUBJECT:
Distorted Audio Output & Front Door Trim Panel Buzz/Rattle
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves securing the front door speaker grilles and/or replacing the audio amplifier
MODELS:
2002 (LH) 300M/Concorde Limited
2002 (LH) LHS (Taiwan/Korea Markets)
NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH INFINITY II AUDIO SYSTEMS (SALES CODE ARF).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Front door speaker distorted sound and/or door trim panel buzz/rattle when audio system is operated at moderately high to maximum volume level.
DIAGNOSIS:
Operate the audio system at a moderately high volume level, if distorted sound and/or door trim panel buzz/rattle is heard, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Check the front door lower speaker grilles for looseness. Use a trim stick to pry the at the front of the speaker grille to remove the speaker grilles from the door trim panels.
2. Insure the lower door speaker mounting screws are tight 1.25 Nm (11 in. lbs.).
3. Operate the audio system while set to maximum bass and at moderately high volume level (25-27 detent clicks from the full muted position), if distorted sound and/or door trim panel buzz/rattle is heard skip to step 6.
4. If distorted sound and/or door trim panel buzz/rattle was not heard in step 3, adjust/bend the lower door speaker grille tabs outboard so any looseness to the door trim panels is removed then install the speaker grilles.
5. Operate the audio system while set to maximum bass and at moderately high volume level, if distorted sound and/or door trim panel buzz/rattle is not heard the repair is complete. If distorted sound and/or door trim panel buzz/rattle is heard, continue the Repair Procedure.
6. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
7. Open the trunk and pull the passenger side trunk liner aside.
8. Remove the three amplifier mounting screws.
9. Disconnect the two amplifier wiring connectors.
10. Remove the amplifier from the vehicle.
11. Position the appropriate revised amplifier in the vehicle.
12. Connect the two wiring connectors.
13. Install the three mounting screws and torque to 6 Nm (53 in. lbs.).
14. Install the trunk liner.
15. Adjust/bend the lower door speaker grille tabs outboard so any looseness to the door trim panels is removed then install the speaker grilles.
16. Connect the negative battery cable.
17. Set the clock to the correct time.
18. Operate the audio system while set to maximum bass and at moderately high volume level, if distorted sound and/or door trim panel buzz/rattle is not heard the repair is complete. If distorted sound and/or door trim panel buzz/rattle is heard, further diagnosis is required.
