THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES SERVICE BULLETIN 18-022-02 DATED JULY 29, 2002, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. THIS IS A COMPLETE REVISION AND NO ASTERISKS HAVE BEEN USED TO HIGHLIGHT REVISIONS. THIS SERVICE BULLETIN PROVIDES AN UPDATE TO CONFORM TO THE TechCONNECT FLASH PROCESS.
SUBJECT:
Flash: MIL Illumination - Misfire Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), making a coordinated spark plug change and providing the owner with information about the spark plug change for their owners manual.
MODELS:
2001 - 2002 (ST) Sebring/Stratus Coupe
NOTE:
This information applies to vehicles equipped with a 3.0L engine (sales code EF7).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate due to one or more of the following DTC's: The DTC(s) may be intermittent and associated with a cold start.
^ P0300: Random Misfire Detected
^ P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
^ P0302 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
^ P0303 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
^ P0304 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
^ P0305 - Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected
^ P0306 - Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected
DIAGNOSIS:
Using the DRBIII(R) and CH8425 PCMCIA Diagnostic Card check for DTC's. If other DTC's are present, record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin. If the condition or DTC's listed above are present or can be duplicated, perform the Repair Procedure.
NOTE:
2002 model vehicles will only require flash reprogramming. For 2001 models, a running change was made after September 25, 2000 (MDH 0925xx) that included an interim software upgrade and gradual phase in of a higher heat range spark plug (heat range 10). If the model you are working on has heat range 10 plugs, there is no need to replace the plugs. The table shown lists the actions for each year.
