48. Reading Test

IMPORTANT: The Readiness Test requires a short vehicle test drive. Be sure that the vehicle is driveable and that all test tools and equipment except the scan tool have been removed.

If the vehicle passes the Readiness Test, this indicates that the condition which caused the DTC to set is not present at this time.

1. Clear DTCs from the PCM memory.
2. Be sure the scan tool and adapter harness MB991545 are still connected to the vehicle.
3. Start the engine under the following vehicle conditions required to run the EVAP Leak Detection Test.
- Cold start: "Battery" temperature (obtained from a temperature sensor inside the PCM) between 4 °C (40 °F) and 31 °C (89 °F)
Engine coolant temperature within ± 5.6 °C (10 °F) of "battery" temperature
- Battery voltage 10 - 15 volts.

NOTE: If battery voltage drops below 10 volts during engine cranking, the EVAP Leak Detection Test will not run.

- Low fuel warning light off On scan tool data list "LOW FUEL LEVEL SN 78" reading is below 2000 mV
- MAP sensor reading 7.5 kPa (11 psi)
- No engine stall during test
- The following DTCs must not be set: -
DTC 18 Purge solenoid electrical fault
DTC 02 PCM self test faults
DTC 01 Cam sensor faults
DTC 40 Crank sensor faults
DTC 132, DTC 26 TPS faults
DTC 30, DTC 31 Coolant sensor faults
DTC 36, DTC 37, DTC 39, DTC 135 MAP sensor faults
DTC 71, DTC 153, DTC 154 Battery temperature sensor electrical faults

NOTE: If the engine coolant temperature (ECT) or battery temperature readings on the scan tool do not meet the EVAP Leak Detection Test requirements, refer to the "Readiness Test Tips" scan tool.




3. Within 40 seconds of engine start up, place your hand on the LDP (located on the front passenger side). You should feel a light cycling tapping as the LDP activates.
a. If LDP is not activated, check for DTCs. If no DTCs are set, confirm that all required monitor conditions are met. If so, disconnect the PCM connector A-78 for about two minutes, then reconnect.
b. If LDP is activated, go to Step 4.




4. Observe the Readiness Test status by following the scan tool selection sequence shown in the illustration.




5. To complete the Readiness Test, the PCM must sufficiently purge the EVAP system. Drive the vehicle between 35 - 45 mph on a level surface at a steady throttle (this can include slowing or stopping; it will take ten minutes or less to complete the Readiness Test).
The Readiness Test is completed when "EVAP: CMP" is displayed on the scan tool screen.

NOTE: If the Readiness Test does not complete, or the vehicle condition do not meet EVAP Leak Detection Test requirements, refer to the "Readiness Test Tips".
