SYMPTOM
P0500 - NO VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
WHEN MONITORED
With engine running more than 31 seconds, engine coolant temperature greater than 180 °F, transmission not in PARK or NEUTRAL, brakes not applied, engine speed greater than 1800 rpm, and MAP vacuum less than 11 in.Hg.
SET CONDITION
No signal from the vehicle speed sensor for more than 11 seconds.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
- EATX codes or pinion factor not programmed
- 8 volt supply circuit not above 7.0 volts
- Speedometer pinion gear observable defect
- VSS signal circuit > 0 mph when jumpered to ground
- VSS ground circuit open
- VSS signal circuit shorted to ground
- VSS wiring harness observable defect
- VSS defective
- PCM terminal observable defect
- PCM defective (VSS)
