Spindle: Description and Operation
SPINDLEDESCRIPTION
A forged rear spindle is mounted to each side of the rear suspension. The top attaches to the rear strut assembly. Two lateral links leading from the rear suspension crossmember are mounted to the forward and rearward ends of the spindle centerline. A trailing arm leading from the frame rail connects to the bottom of the spindle.
OPERATION
The spindle moves up and down with the tire and wheel under jounce and rebound conditions. The lateral links control lateral movement of the spindle while the trailing arm controls fore-and-aft movement.
The spindle acts as a mount for the rear hub and bearing, tire and wheel, and rear brakes.
