SUBJECT:
Black Substance Dripping From The Lower Door Edge.
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves removing the door trim panel, cleaning the butyl residue from the door, installing a new weather shield, and re-assembling the door.
MODELS:
1999 - 2000 (FJ) Avenger/Sebring
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some vehicles may exhibit a condition where the butyl used for holding the door weather shield in place drips from the lower door edge.
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect both lower door edges for signs of black residue dripping from behind the door trim panel. If this condition is seen, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 04886330AA Mopar Super Clean
1 MB908594 Shield, Weather Right
1 MB908593 Shield, Weather Left
AR NPN Butyl Tape 1/4 inch - 3M 08610 or Equivalent
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the door trim panel(s) following service manual procedures.
2. Remove the door weather shield and discard the shield.
3. Using Mopar Super Clean p/n 04886330AA, clean as much of the butyl residue from the door skin as possible.
4. Install a new weather shield p/n MB908594 right or MB908593 left using 1/4 inch butyl tape 3M 08610 or equivalent.
NOTE
IF THE SILL PLATE OR CARPET HAS BECOME STAINED AND CLEAN UP IS NOT POSSIBLE, REPLACE THOSE COMPONENTS USING STANDARD LABOR OPERATIONS.
5. Reinstall the door trim panel(s) following service manual procedures.
