Removal and Installation
REMOVAL1. Drain cooling system. Refer to Cooling System
2. Remove timing belt and camshaft sprockets.
3. Remove intake manifold/plenum assembly.
4. Remove cylinder head covers and rocker arm assemblies.
5. Remove distributor.
6. Remove exhaust manifolds and cross-under pipe.
7. Remove cylinder head bolts and remove cylinder head.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: When cleaning cylinder head surfaces, DO NOT use a metal scraper because the surfaces could be cut or ground, Use ONLY a wooden or plastic scraper.
1. Clean surfaces of cylinder head and block. Install new head gasket over locating dowels.
2. Install cylinder head on locating dowels.
3. Install 10 mm Allen hex head bolts with washers.

CAUTION: Attach the head bolt washer in the direction shown (Fig. 42).

4. Tighten bolts in the order shown (Fig. 43). When tightening the cylinder head bolts, tighten gradually, working in two or three steps and finally tighten to specified torque of 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.).
5. Install exhaust cross-under pipe and connect exhaust system to manifold flange.
6. Install distributor.
7. Install cylinder head covers.
8. Install intake manifold/plenum assembly.
9. Install camshaft sprockets and timing belt.
10. Fill cooling system. Refer to Cooling System
