Fuel Pump Pickup Filter: Description and Operation

FUEL PUMP INLET STRAINER

Fuel Pump Module:

Inlet Strainer Removal:

The fuel pump inlet strainer is mounted on the fuel pump module, which is installed in the top of the fuel tank.

The inlet strainer is used to prevent large particles of foreign material from entering the fuel pump and causing damage to the pump. The pump draws fuel through the strainer and pushes it through the motor to the fuel outlet connection.

The inlet strainer, fuel pressure regulator and fuel level sensor are the only serviceable items of the fuel pump module. If the fuel pump or electrical wiring harness requires service, replace the fuel pump module.
