AM/FM Radio - Reception Interference/Performance

NO: 08-39-98

GROUP: Electrical

DATE: Sep. 11, 1998

SUBJECT:
AM/FM Radio Reception Performance

MODELS:
1998 - 1999 (LH) Concorde/LHS/300M

DISCUSSION:

AM/FM reception can be adversely affected by the installation of the following items:

^ CAR PHONE ANTENNAS

Car phone antennas mounted on the rear window glass, particularly at the top of the glass where the AM grid resides. The grid design varies somewhat between the different LH models, but all provide adequate mounting area near the top of the glass to mount a typical car phone antenna base to the glass. Care must be exercised to avoid the car phone antenna mounting base from coming in contact with any of the antenna grid lines, or AM reception will be compromised.

^ REAR GLASS WINDOW TINTING

Conductive window tint film applied to the rear window glass. Conductive (containing titanium) window tint film has the effect of grounding the AM antenna and altering the impedance of the FM antenna, degrading the performance. Customers that wish to have window tint film added to their rear window glass should be advised that only on-conductive window tint film should be used.
