MIL Illuminated DTC "Catalyst Efficiency Failure" (P-0420)
MODELS:
1998 - 1999 (LH) Concorde/Intrepid/LHS/300M
NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE MAY 27, 1998 (MDH 0527XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated with a "Catalyst Efficiency Failure" Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC P-0420) recorded in the Powertrain Control Module's (PCM).
DIAGNOSIS:
Using the Diagnostic Scan Tool (DRB III(R)) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures Manual, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTC's other than "Catalyst Efficiency Failure" are present, record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin. If the diagnostic procedures indicate oxygen sensor replacement, perform the Repair Procedure (do not replace oxygen sensor).

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing the catalytic converters.
1. Replace both catalytic converters as described on page 11-5 of either the 1998 Concorde/Intrepid Service Manual (Publication No. 81-270-8140) or the 1999 Concorde/Intrepid/LHS/300M Service Manual (Publication No. 81-270-9140).
NOTE:
THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE REQUIRED BY LAW.
2. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label", p/n 04275086, and attach the label near the VECI Label (Figure 1).
POLICY: Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
