Wiper Park Switch Failure

NAME OF CODE
Wiper Park Switch Failure

WHEN MONITORED
With wipers on (any speed)

SET CONDITION
BCM fails to detect a park signal from the wiper motor for 8 consecutive seconds.

THEORY OF OPERATION
The BCM provides 5 volt signal to the wiper park switch. When the wipers are parked, the switch closes, forcing the signal to ground. Any time the BCM activates the wiper on/off relay (with the wipers starting in the parked position), it expects to see the park switch disappear (5 volt signal) and subsequently reappear (signal to ground) after the wipers have completed one cycle. If the ground signal does not reappear for 18 consecutive seconds, the BCM will set this fault and will turn the wipers on low speed with the switch in the intermittent and low positions. When the switch is turned off, the wipers will stop wherever they may be on the windshield.

PROBABLE CAUSES
- Open wiper park switch sense
- Wiper park switch sense short to battery
- Failed wiper motor
- Failed BCM
