VIN Mismatch, EEPROM Failure w/o a Rolling Code Failure

NAME OF CODE
VIN Mismatch

WHEN MONITORED
Monitored continuously during the engine run cycle.

SET CONDITION
This condition exists when the VIN received from the PCM does not match the VIN stored in the SKIM's EEPROM.

NOTE: Failure maturity time may take up to 3 minutes.

THEORY OF OPERATION
VIN character data (17 characters) is transmitted by the PCM on the PCI bus. The VIN character data received by the SKIM is contained within 5 bus messages. If the VIN character data received by the SKIM does not match the VIN data stored in the SKIM's EEPROM, a VIN MISMATCH code is stored in the SKIM.

NOTE: The SKIM's VIN data can not be altered using a DRB or MDS once it has been programed into the SKIM's EEPROM.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
- Incorrect VIN character(s) stored in the SKIM's EEPROM
- Incorrect VIN character(s) stored in the PCM's EEPROM
- Defective Powertrain Control Module
- Defective Sentry Key Immobilizer Module

NAME OF CODE
EEPROM Failure

WHEN MONITORED
At ignition ON and during the SKIM programming process, which programs SKIM's PIN the VIN, Country Code or additional keys.

SET CONDITION
This condition is set when an error occurs during programming the SKIM's EEPROM. The other condition that causes this code to mature is an EEPROM I2C link failure

THEORY OF OPERATION
The SKIM's EEPROM is used to store information critical to the SKIM's operation.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
- Defective Sentry Key Immobilizer Module

NAME OF CODE
Rolling Code Failure

WHEN MONITORED
At ignition ON, after ignition ON during any rolling code handshake that occurs with the PCM due to a SKIM or PCM reset.

SET CONDITION
This condition exists when a PCM STATUS message is not received by the SKIM within 3.5 seconds of transmitting what the SKIM believes to be a "key code" message to the PCM. The key code" sent by the SKIM may or may not be "valid in this case.

THEORY OF OPERATION
The PCM transmits a PCM STATUS message to the SKIM on a repetitive basis. This message informs the SKIM whether the PCM thinks it has received a "valid key" or an invalid' key" message from the SKIM.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
- PCI bus wire in the wiring harness is open
- PCI bus wire in the wiring harness is shorted to ground
- PCI bus wire in the wiring harness is shorted to battery voltage
- Defective Sentry Key Immobilizer Module
- Defective Powertrain Control Module
