VIN Mismatch Trouble Code
NAME OF CODEVIN Mismatch
WHEN MONITORED
Monitored continuously during the engine run cycle.
SET CONDITION
This condition exists when the VIN received from the PCM does not match the VIN stored in the SKIM's EEPROM.
NOTE: Failure maturity time may take up to 3 minutes.
THEORY OF OPERATION
VIN character data (17 characters) is transmitted by the PCM on the PCI bus. The VIN character data received by the SKIM is contained within 5 bus messages. If the VIN character data received by the SKIM does not match the VIN data stored in the SKIM's EEPROM, a VIN MISMATCH code is stored in the SKIM.
NOTE: The SKIM's VIN data can not be altered using a DRB or MDS once it has been programed into the SKIM's EEPROM.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
- Incorrect VIN character(s) stored in the SKIM's EEPROM
- Incorrect VIN character(s) stored in the PCM's EEPROM
- Defective Powertrain Control Module
- Defective Sentry Key Immobilizer Module
