Fuel Level Sending Unit Failure
NAME OF CODEFuel Level Sending Unit Failure
WHEN MONITORED
with ignition on
SET CONDITION
BCM detects an abnormally high voltage on the fuel level input.
THEORY OF OPERATION
BCM provides a pull-up to ignition for the fuel level sensor, but the resulting voltage on the pin should be below 5 volts no matter what the fuel level whenever the sensor is connected. This fault will not be set if the sensor is shorted to ground. The SBEC sets it's own fault for a fuel level sensor failure to meet OBDII requirements; the purpose of this fault is to support the instrument cluster.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
- Wiring open circuit
- Wiring short to battery
- Failed fuel level sensor
- Failed BCM
