Front






REMOVAL
1. Remove front exhaust pipe.
2. Follow procedure outlined in the illustration noting the following.

Front Bank Side
1 Heated Oxygen sensor
2 Heat protector
3 Bracket
4 Catalytic Converter


Rear Bank Side
5 Intake manifold plenum
6 Heat protector
7 Intake manifold plenum stay
8 Generator
9 Heated oxygen sensor
10 EGR pipe assembly
11 Heat protector upper
12 Heat cover
13 Heat protector
14 Heated oxygen sensor
15 Bracket
16 Catalytic Converter






3. Use special tool MD998770 to remove front and rear heated oxygen sensors.
4. The exhaust manifold threads must be cleaned with an 18 mm (0.7 inch) x 1.5 + 6E tap after the heated oxygen sensor has been disconnected.

INSTALLATION
1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order, noting the following.
2. If reusing the original sensor, coat the sensor threads with an antiseize compound such as Loctite 771-64 or equivalent. New sensors have compound on the threads and do not require an additional coating.

INSPECTION
Check for damage, cracking or deterioration. Replace if faulty.

CAUTIONS:
- Stop the engine immediately if engine misfiring occurs, otherwise an abnormally hot exhaust system will damage the catalytic converter or other underbody parts.
- Correct and repair the ignition or fuel system if there are malfunctions, otherwise engine misfiring may occur which will damage the catalytic converter.
- Observe manufacturer's specifications when doing service work.
