Oil Pump: Service and Repair






REMOVAL
1. Follow removal steps outlined in the illustration noting the following.





2. Knock the special tool deeply between the oil pan and the cylinder block.
3. Hitting the special tool on the side, slide it along the oil pan to remove the oil pan.





4. Make alignment dots on the outer and inner rotors for reference in reassembly.

INSTALLATION
1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order noting the following.
2. Apply engine oil to the rotors. Then, install the rotors ensuring that the alignment dots made at disassembly are properly aligned.
3. Remove the sealant from the cylinder block (oil pump mounting plane) and oil pump.





4. Apply a 3 mm (0.118 inch) diameter bead of sealant to the oil pump case. Be sure to install the oil pan quickly while the sealant is wet (within 15 minutes).
5. After installation, keep the sealed area away from the oil and coolant for approximately 1 hour. Use specified sealant: MITSUBISHI GENUINE Part -No. MD970389 or equivalent.





6. Using special tool install front crankshaft oil seal.
7. Clean the gasket surfaces of the cylinder block and oil pan.





8. Apply a 4 mm (0.157 inch) diameter bead of sealant to the oil pump case. Be sure to install the oil pan quickly while the sealant is wet (within 15 minutes).
9. After installation, keep the sealed area away from the oil and coolant for approximately 1 hour.

CAUTION: When installing the oil pan, be sure not to expel the sealant from the oil pan flange at portion A in the illustration. Use specified sealant: MITSUBISHI GENUINE Part -No. MD970389 or equivalent.





10. Replace the drain plug gasket with a new one. When installing the new gasket, direct it as shown.
11. Clean the installation surface of the filter bracket.
12. Apply engine oil to the O-ring of the oil filter.
13. Screw the oil filter on until the O-ring contacts the bracket. Then tighten 3/4 turn or 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.).
