Parking Brake Cable: Service and Repair

Parking Brake Cable Components Removal:






REMOVAL

CAUTION:
a. When removing the floor console, do not let it bump against the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) or other components.
b. Before removal of SRS-ECU, Refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts.

1. Remove the floor console.
2. Remove components in order shown above.

Removing Rear Brake Assembly:





3. Remove the rear brake caliper assembly and support it with wire or similar material.

Removing Shoe Hold-Down Cup:





4. Extend the shoe and lining assembly, and remove the shoe hold-down cup.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: When installing the floor console, do not let it bump against the SRS-ECU or other components.

1. Install in reverse order of removal.

Installing Automatic Adjuster:





2. Install the adjuster so that the shoe adjusting bolt of left hand wheel is attached towards the front of the vehicle, and the shoe adjusting bolt of right hand wheel is towards the rear of the vehicle.

Shoe-To-Anchor Spring:





3. The load on the respective shoe-to-anchor springs is different, so the spring in the figure has been painted.

NOTE: The figure shows the left wheel; for the right wheel, the position is symmetrical.

4. Perform parking brake lever stroke check.
5. Install the floor console.
