Hydraulic Control Assembly - Antilock Brakes: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Drain brake fluid.
2. Remove splash shield.
3. Remove headlight assembly.
4. Remove air cleaner assembly (Non-turbo).
5. Remove Engine Control Module (ECM) (Non-turbo). Refer to Powertrain Management.
6. Remove relay box bracket (Non-turbo).
7. Remove power steering oil reservoir mounting bolts (Turbo). Refer to Steering and Suspension.
8. Remove power steering pressure pipe and return pipe clamp mounting bolts (Turbo). Refer to Steering and Suspension.
9. Follow removal steps outlined in the image noting the following.





10. Pull the pusher in the direction of the arrow to remove the connector.

CAUTION:
1. The hydraulic unit assembly is heavy, and so care should be taken when removing it.
2. The hydraulic unit assembly is not to be disassembled; its nuts and bolts must not be loosened.
3. The hydraulic unit assembly must not be dropped or otherwise subjected to impact shocks.
4. The hydraulic unit assembly must not be turned upside down or laid on its side.

INSTALLATION
1. Follow removal steps in reverse order for installation noting the following.





2. Connect the pipes to the hydraulic unit assembly as shown.
1. To the proportioning valve (R.H.)
2. To the proportioning valve (L.H.)
3. From the master cylinder (Primary)
4. From the master cylinder (Secondary)
5. To the front brake (R.H.)
6. To the front brake (L.H.)
3. Install power steering pressure pipe and return pipe clamp mounting bolts (Turbo). Refer to Steering and Suspension.
4. Install power steering oil reservoir mounting bolts (Turbo). Refer to Steering and Suspension.
5. Install relay box bracket (Non-turbo).
6. Install ECM (Non-turbo). Refer to Powertrain Management.
7. Install air cleaner assembly (Non-turbo).
8. Install headlight assembly (L.H.).
9. Install splash shield (L.H.).
10. Fill brake fluid.
11. Bleed the brake system.
12. Perform hydraulic unit check.
