Cross-Member: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Drain power steering fluid.
2. Remove front exhaust pipe.
3. Remove stabilizer bar.
4. Remove Steering Gear Box.





5. Remove center-member following steps outlined in the illustration, noting the following.





a. Set the special tool to the vehicle to support the engine assembly.
b. Remove the center member assembly.





6. Remove crossmember following the steps outlined in the illustration.

INSPECTION
- Check the crossmember for cracks of deformation.
- Check the bushings for cracks of deterioration.

INSTALLATION
Follow removal steps in reverse order for installation.





CROSSMEMBER BUSHING A AND B
1. Apply soapy water to the contact surface of the bush when press-fitting the bushing.





2. Press-fit the bush so that the inner pipe projection is at the standard length.

Standard Values
Bushing A: 9.0 +/- 1.0 mm (0.35 +/- 0.04 inch)
Bushing B: 4.0 +/- 1.0 mm (0.16 +/- 0.04 inch)





CROSSMEMBER BUSHING C
1. Use the special tool to drive out and press-fit the crossmember bushing C.





2. Press-fit the bush so that the inner pipe projection is 4.0 +/-0.5 mm (0.16 +/-0.02 inch).
